Connecting Players in More Places: Text Chat Now Available Across the Epic Ecosystem

We’re rolling out a new text chat experience that enables players to stay in touch with their friends anytime, on more devices. Conversations now sync across Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store, and new Epic Games mobile apps on iOS. Text chat will come to the Epic Games Launcher and Android apps in January.
This is an important step towards a unified Epic social experience connecting nearly a billion users across the Epic ecosystem. Next year, we’ll bring the feature to Rocket League and Fall Guys and to developers who use Epic Online Services’ (EOS) Social Overlay in their games, opening up text chat beyond Epic’s own games.
Here’s How It Works:
To get started, click the social button to chat with friends, manage friend requests, and customize your communication settings. You’ll see your DMs and group messages from the last 30 days anywhere you’re logged in.
You can download the Epic Games app for iPhone and iPad on the App Store. The Epic Games Store app for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded and installed directly from Epic.
In Fortnite, your same DM and group conversations are in the new sidebar “Chats” tab. Read more about all the ways you can text chat in Fortnite over on the Fortnite blog.
Text Reporting & Parental Controls:
Just like in Fortnite, you can report text chats that you think violate our Community Rules to Epic using the three dot button at the bottom of your group or DM conversation when text reporting is on. Text reporting is always on for text conversations that include players under 18. Learn more in our text reporting FAQs.
Parents and guardians can continue to use Epic’s Parental Controls to manage chat permissions for their child’s account and they’ll apply to all places their child uses Epic text chat.
