What’s new in Infinity Nikki's 1.5 Bubble Season update

This is Infinity Nikki 1.5, the first significant overhaul and latest lore drop in the story. That’s not the only big deal in this update, though. Infold Games has also been hard at work on the new cooperative multiplayer and features like the DIY Workshop, which allows players to color their clothes. Prior to this hands-on preview, we interviewed the development team about their inspirations for Infinity Nikki and the challenges they faced implementing the 1.5 update.
We had the chance to play the 1.5 update ahead of its release. While many of the tips in our original beginners' guide are still valid, players are sure to have questions about the new features in 1.5.
Here’s what you should do when diving into Infinity Nikki 1.5, plus a few explanations on the new story, features, and areas of interest.
What is the story of Infinity Nikki Version 1.5?
It turns out our girl Nikki is the survivor of a world gone wrong. In the timeline we know, Nikki was summoned to Miraland to find the Miracle Outfits after she was suddenly sucked into a wardrobe Narnia-style. In that world, she met Ena the Creator, who bestowed her with the power of the Heart of Infinity. That goddess had hoped Nikki would learn to use the Heart of Infinity to save the world, but she failed.
The Seer turns back time to give Nikki another chance to save Miraland with the help of the Heart of Infinity and the Miracle Outfits. It’s up to the players to find out what happens this time around and how Nikki can subvert disaster in style.
Rewrite Nikki’s destiny
Infinity Nikki 1.5 sends Nikki back in time to when she first received the Heart of Infinity. She may not remember every detail, but we the player probably will as we reunite with Florawish regulars like Dada, the Stylist Guild receptionist, and Giovanni, the Wish Paper salesman.
But it’s not exactly the same. We reach a turning point where it’s obvious that the story is diverging from the original plot. Certain characters remember the alternate timelines, and Nikki has to learn more about her origins in this new playthrough.
If you already know the story and tutorials like the back of your hand, you can confidently use the skip button for dialogue sequences and cutscenes that have it. You’ll probably need to progress through a couple of major quests before you notice the differences in dialogue from the original timeline. Even the ones I caught during my hands-on time were small.
On the bright side, the 1.5 update will enable you to take advantage of new features like the Sea of Stars and the DIY Workshop right away, even if you’re far behind in the new story.
Explore the Sea of Stars
The Sea of Stars is a new area inside the Infinity Nikki universe and its main cooperative playground. Like a fantasy tropical paradise, it flaunts dreamy pink grass and walkways, palm trees looming beneath the midnight blue sky, and showers of tiny sparkling stars falling in the background. Here, players can take advantage of the new multiplayer mode and features like “hand-holding,” which is exactly what it sounds like: You and a friend link hands and travel together throughout the Sea of Stars.
You don’t need to find the Sea of Stars—the Sea of Stars will find you. The moment you enter Version 1.5, it will introduce you to the new area with a short tutorial. Once you go back to Miraland, you’ll be able to teleport to the Sea of Stars whenever you want. Just open your map and toggle between the “Sea of Stars” and “Miraland” options.
Hold hands with friends
You or your friend need to accept an invitation from the other before you can interact. Once accepted, you can walk up to your playmate to see the button prompt to hold their hand.
While we didn’t get to hand-hold with friends during our time with the preview, we did get to experience it during our introduction to the Sea of Stars with the Seer. The Seer, a goddess-like being who’s lived through multiple instances of time and space, takes Nikki’s hand and guides her through the world for the first time.
Sure it’s cute, but there’s a purpose. You can work together with friends to take on challenges, photoshoots, and more. The two new limited-time outfits, Crimson Feather and Snowy Ballad, also have a unique effect that activates when two players wearing one of each outfit interact with each other.
Invite others to co-op
The easiest way to co-op with friends you already know is by trading friend codes and then inviting each other through your friends list in the Sea of Stars. After Version 1.5 goes live, you should also see shadows of players moving about the twilight-hued walkways and shores of the Sea of Stars. You can invite a friend to play together or send invitations to those shadowy strangers, and maybe you should.
To celebrate the launch of co-op mode, the 1.5 update even features a limited-time event where you can participate with other players in co-op challenges for rewards.
Craft the new Miracle Outfit
In the last update, players had access to two Miracle Outfits, Wishful Aurosa and Silvergale's Aria. The Infinity Nikki 1.5 update introduces one more with the Sea of Stars feature. The Sea of Stars is also the name of the new Miracle Outfit. It pays homage to the Star Sea outfit from Infinity Nikki’s predecessors Miracle Nikki and Shining Nikki.
Similar to the Star Sea, you can unlock the different pieces of the Sea of Stars outfit naturally as you progress through the story, collect materials, and earn rewards. Like other five-star outfits, the Sea of Stars features four other unlockable color schemes. Speaking of which…
Dye-ing to try new outfits
We spent a good amount of time in the demo just experimenting with different color combos. The new DIY Workshop lets players dye any wearable item of their choosing. Once we unlocked the workshop, we were able to freely dye my clothing with already-unlocked color palettes. Even if it’s just for certain ability-based outfits, floating over rooftops in pink and purple instead of the Floating Outfit’s typical blue was a satisfying change.
Certain outfits already come in different color schemes that you can earn by creating copies of the same item or with unlockable leveling items. That said, the DIY Workshop offers an alternative way to change up your look in ways that your outfit’s evolution options might not allow.
Infinity Nikki also encourages players to use the DIY Workshop with a limited-time event that rewards you for playing with colors.
Browse the Color Lookbook
Using the new Color Lookbook in the Sea of Stars, you can see color combos that other players have posted and unique designs for certain outfits, where applicable. You can use these for inspiration and copy them if you have the right materials.
Visit Serenity Island
Serenity Island is a satellite island featuring Whim Balloons and the alternate Dews of Inspiration like the Firework Isles before it, but it’s got a different story. It’s full of Pieceys, many of which seem to be knowledgeable about the art of dyeing. If you wrap up your quests in the main storyline quickly, you’ll have plenty more to explore on this island. But there’s no rush to get there with everything that the 1.5 update offers.
Rack up Resonance Crystals
Resonance Crystals each represent one chance or “pull” at receiving a high-quality outfit from an Infinity Nikki banner. In just the 1.5 update alone, players can earn up to 100 free pulls with Resonance Crystals and Diamonds from login events, challenges, quests, and more.
