13 tips for surviving Miasma Chronicles’ post-apocalyptic United States
The Bearded Ladies’ follow up to their excellent turn-based tactical RPG Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, hit Epic Games Store this spring, delivering another dive into the tactical RPG space with Miasma Chronicles.
In the 505 Games’ published title, players take on the role of a young survivor in a post-apocalyptic United States as he and his robot sidekick strive to overcome a lethal miasma that can transform or kill all living things. Their goal is to use the glove left behind by protagonist Elvis’ mother to try and control the miasma while on the hunt to find her.
It’s a game that expects much from player tactics and leans heavily on stealth to succeed. With the difficulty notched so far up, we decided to hit up the team at The Bearded Ladies for some advice on how best to survive and thrive in Miasma Chronicles.
You’ll find a nice selection of combat tips below, but this isn’t a game purely about combat, there are also puzzles. The team wanted players to know that if you get stuck on one, all you really need to do is search for a note in the area. All you need to solve the puzzle is in that single note.
Now onto the combat advice
Pre-combat planning
-
Make a habit of checking enemies strengths and weaknesses, so you have an optimal build to deal with them.
-
Focus on the environment and find choke points. When fighting a losing fight, draw your units back to a spot with one narrow access point. Then use the Overwatch skill when the enemy is close. Additionally, drop acid or fire grenades for the enemy to get a status effect when traversing the gap.
-
With the Energy Gain weapon mod, set Elvis to Overwatch when setting up an ambush. As every enemy needs to run for cover, Elvis is guaranteed to get a good number of kilowatts along with clean shots on multiple enemies.
-
Scout out the area for barrels and plan to combine explosives with explosives. Barrels and grenades are your friend.
Weapons
-
Always use Wideboy with the range mod! You will be able to cover a really large area and be able to hit a lot of enemies. Stacking up that damage and crit! Better still, use a shield breaking shot or an acid shot to get multiple armors down.
-
Try combining a shotgun and the Overwatch skill for collateral mayhem!
-
The power of a good shotgun when a lot of enemies are close to you can outweigh the necessity to silently pick off enemies before a fight.
-
The combination of a Bouncer class weapon and the skill Sidewinder gives you a big boost in crit chance.
-
Silent shots with skills are still silent shots. Use them when needed to ensure you get the kill.
-
Snipers are useless up close, get close to them. The same goes for you, never get up close if you’re using a sniper rifle.
Miasma Power
-
Use Miasma Power Electro Chainer with the shrink chip to shrink multiple enemies.
-
Use the frog summon, he’s your bullet sponge and a very powerful healer.
Diggs
-
Use Diggs to knock out an annoying unit like the Frog Witchdoctor or the Spawnlord.
-
Build up Diggs as a tank with shield power cores and use him as a cover. Additionally, try to make enemies focus on him as much as possible.
