It’s time to vote for this year’s best Fortnite Island for The Game Awards

The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite, which debuted last year, has been refreshed with a batch of new Islands to check out and vote for, an Arena in which to test your combat prowess, and a slick new host: the one and only MetaHuman Geoff Keighley.
This year’s digital Keighley is clearly much improved over 2023’s version. Where last year’s hologram look was created using greenscreen video capture, this year’s makes use of MetaHuman to deliver a more realistic depiction.
Epic Games announced in March that MetaHumans, which can be used to create high-fidelity digital humans, can now be used in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
To be transformed into a MetaHuman, Keighley traveled to 3Lateral in Manchester to undergo a face and body scan.
“I saw Epic’s announcement of MetaHumans in UEFN earlier this year and thought it would be incredible to see what was possible around The Game Awards,” Keighley said. “I spent a full day at 3Lateral in Manchester, England to get scanned as a MetaHuman. You sit in a scanner and do tons of different face poses, then they scan your body too. The results speak for themselves, I truly feel like I have a digital double!”
This year’s nominated islands, which were selected by Keighley and his team, are a healthy mix of genres and styles and include some spectacular uses of UEFN.
“When our team is looking for Islands, we search for experiences that really show the potential of UEFN—ones that deserve to be discovered by players," said Keighley. "It’s still early days for UEFN, but we are constantly amazed by the diversity and quality of the experiences being built by the creator community.”

The winner will be announced the following day during The Game Awards.
Once you settle on the best island of the batch—a real challenge, in our experience with them—hop into the Arena for a different sort of challenge. Players fight it out in this round-based mode as they try to survive waves of enemies. After each round, players are rewarded with currency which can be used to get new, more powerful weapons.
Keighley sees the combination of live entertainment and games as something that will only get better as it evolves.
“As we celebrate a decade of TGA, The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite hints at some of the possibilities for our next decade,” he said. “Back in 2019, I hosted the Live at Risky Reels event with J.J. Abrams around Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That event made me see Fortnite as a new platform for programming and content. Over the next decade we are going to push on how to use games and game engines as a venue to gather and celebrate this medium—what you’re seeing today is just a prototype and hint of where TGA will go in the next decade. Imagine a day when we can announce a new game, and then the screen opens and you can actually jump into that game to play a quick demo!”
