The Ratchet & Clank series is beloved for its charming characters, zany humor, and galaxy-spanning action. Sony and Insomniac Games recently celebrated the franchise’s 20th anniversary on PlayStation, but for PC players, the party’s just getting started.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart comes to the Epic Games Store on July 26, and it’s bringing the absolute best of the series with it. Whether you’ve grown up with Ratchet on console, or you’re adventuring with him for the first time, Rift Apart provides countless laughs, tense firefights, and ample fun.

Wondering what to expect from Ratchet & Clank’s EGS debut? Here are 9 great reasons to get excited about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC.

Massive rifts—and massive thrills

In Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the titular duo face their greatest challenge to date: the multiverse.

When the evil Dr. Nefarious gets his hands on the Dimensionator, a device capable of opening portals to new universes, Ratchet and Clank disarm him—but not before getting dragged to another dimension. Now separated from one another, Ratchet and Clank must rely on newfound allies to reunite, as well as a series of interdimensional rifts.

Narrative importance aside, these rifts add a new dimension to Ratchet & Clank’s classic action. At the tap of a button, Ratchet can use his new “Rift Tether” to latch onto a fracture within the environment. Doing so warps him to the affected area in real time. Whether you’re finding a foothold while platforming or flanking unsuspecting enemies in combat, you'll never get tired of flinging yourself from one portal to the next.

A heartwarming new duo in Rivet and Kit

Accompanying Ratchet & Clank on their journey are two new characters: Rivet and Kit. Rivet is a fellow Lombax and tinkerer. With her fiery spirit and massive heart, she’s an admirable analogue to Ratchet. Kit, meanwhile, is a timid soul who has Clank’s charm, but carries an air of mystery.

As players travel between planets, Rift Apart transitions seamlessly between the two Lombaxes, introducing new story threads and gameplay sequences. The dual-protagonist format adds spice to an already well-seasoned narrative, offering plenty of emotional beats (and surprises) from start to finish.

Sprawling, semi-open worlds

Ratchet & Clank is synonymous with enthralling worlds and tantalizing secrets. Whether you’re meeting quirky characters, completing oddball tasks, or hunting for collectibles, the series offers something memorable at every corner of the galaxy.

Rift Apart takes this philosophy and dials the energy up to 11. Insomniac has crafted some of its biggest and richest sandboxes to date. On Savali, you boost through arid flatlands and craggy mountains with your hover boots. On Sargasso, you hop, glide, and grapple between safe zones of a poisonous bog. From grasslands to tundras, cityscapes to prisons, there’s never a dull moment.

Brain-teasing puzzles

When you’re not exploring as Ratchet or Rivet, you have the chance to take on puzzle rooms known as “anomalies.” As Clank, you can explore these distortions in space, where you use the environment to guide a series of clones from one end of the room to the other. Get to the end, and you’ll repair the anomaly, which stabilizes the area.

This is easier said than done. Thankfully, Clank has access to various spheres that manipulate the puzzle room in novel ways. The Lift Sphere decreases gravity, which allows you and your clones to reach higher areas. The Speed Sphere, meanwhile, propels you forward with a burst of energy. Combine these Spheres—and others you find—to create crafty solutions.

Zurkie's Battleplex

It wouldn’t be a Ratchet & Clank game without some serious side activities, and Rift Apart has them in spades. The most notable excursion is Zurkie’s, located in the Scarstu Debris Field. Here, you can sample Rift Apart’s stellar soundtrack on an in-game jukebox or take a crack at the Battleplex, an arena with increasingly difficult challenges.

Some challenges task you with defeating waves of enemies with a single weapon. Others pit you against an intimidating boss, while others eschew fighting completely. One standout challenge asks you to complete a time trial on an interdimensional racing course. Your steed is a blazingly fast critter known as a Speetle.

When you tire of saving the galaxy—or simply need a place to earn some space bolts—give Zurkie’s a visit.

Enhanced visuals and lighting

Corson V, the first planet you visit, is a gorgeously rendered cityscape with towering skyscrapers, neon billboards, and bustling traffic. Ardolis, a pirate cove, features detailed ships, cozy lighting, and gentle hues of blue and green. Particle effects abound, and the game's cutscenes rival even the best animated films.

If Rift Apart looked great before, it’s absolutely breathtaking on PC. The game boasts a variety of visual enhancements on PC, including support for upscaled resolutions, as well as ray-traced reflections and shadows. Players can choose between a variety of quality levels in addition to several upscaling options, including NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, and Intel XeSS.

Ultrawide display support

Ultrawide monitors are a game-changer for anyone’s PC setup, and Rift Apart’s beautiful landscapes take full advantage of it. It provides day-one support for a variety of monitor resolutions, including 21:9, 32:9, and even 48:9. The team at Nixxes has worked to optimize all gameplay segments and cutscenes for panoramic displays.

An unlocked framerate

The original console release of Rift Apart managed to maintain a buttery smooth 60 frames per second, no matter how many hordes of enemies—and resulting gunfire—players encountered on screen. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart supports unlocked framerates on PC, which is a significant upgrade, especially for those with monitors that support high refresh rates.

Powerful new tools of destruction

Great controls mean little without some satisfying gameplay. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart delivers the goods with 20 different guns to collect and upgrade as you journey through the cosmos.

As has become tradition with the series, Rift Apart’s arsenal of weapons feels their own cast of characters, each with its own look, feel, and personality. Your starting weapon, the Burst Pistol, pelts enemies with a volley of bullets. The Shatterbomb lets you lob grenades at your foes, while the Topiary Sprinkler turns them into beautiful shrubbery fit for any public park. Perhaps the most satisfying of them all is the Negatron Collider, which charges up a massive beam to tear through enemy lines.

Each weapon has unique skill trees that let you improve their range, potency, rate of fire, and more. Longtime Ratchet & Clank fans can also look forward to the latest superweapon, the RYNO 8. While we won’t spoil the details here, know that it’s worth every bolt of its steep price tag.
