Epic Games Store 2024 Year in Review

2.14.2025
By Epic Games

Welcome to this year's edition of the Epic Games Store Year In Review! As with previous years, we've spent time reflecting on the year we've had in 2024 while taking a look ahead at some of the most anticipated store features and releases coming in 2025.

We're excited to announce that we achieved a new milestone of 295M Epic Games Store PC users in 2024, representing an increase of 25M users year over year. The Epic ecosystem expanded significantly as well, with 898M total Epic cross-platform accounts, growing 94M in 2024. This includes accounts created through partner platforms and the Epic Games Store on mobile, which we launched last year on Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union . Daily Active Users (DAU) peaked at 37.2M, and our peak Monthly Active Users (MAU) reached 74M – slightly down from last year’s 75M. Our average Daily Active User count was 31.5m, up 6% with average Monthly Active Users at 67.2m, also up 6%.

We continue to see strong momentum in catalog growth thanks to continued adoption of, and improvements to, our Self-Publishing Tools. In 2024, 1,100 games released on the Epic Games Store, taking our total catalog size to over 4000 products. Player spending on third-party applications using Epic Payments reached $255 million, down 18% year over year. This number does not include publishers generating revenue via their own payment solutions. Total spending, including Epic’s games, achieved $1.09B in 2024, up 15% from 2023.

We’ve stated that when you succeed we succeed, and the ways developers are succeeding on the Store continues to evolve beyond our traditional measure of third-party revenue we see from our native payment solution. It's not only growth in DAU and MAU that highlight how big the market opportunity is on the Epic Game Store, but third-party gametime as well, which grew from 2.41 Billion hours in 2023, to 2.68 Billion in 2024; a 11% increase year over year.  We’re also seeing more developers than ever leverage the paths we provide to keep 100% of their net revenue throughout a game’s lifecycle.  This includes Epic First Run, our opt-in exclusivity program which includes over 150 games scheduled for upcoming release, and Now on Epic, our limited time incentive program for back catalog titles. We are happy to share that the Now on Epic program has been extended to January 31, 2026 and now includes mobile titles. These two programs allow developers to keep 100% of Net Revenue for the first 6 months after a game releases on the Epic Games Store.

The Epic Games Store also provides developers with the freedom to utilize their own third party payment solutions for their In App Purchases (IAP), and a growing list of developers are finding both success and revenue bringing alternative payment solutions for IAP alongside their games.  This benefits developers greatly as they keep 100% of the net revenue on their IAP sales and have more direct relationships with their players. Games that embrace this opportunity typically have large daily player counts here on the Epic Games Store, including hit live service titles like Marvel Rivals, Valorant, and Naraka: Bladepoint, along with hit premium titles like EA SPORTS FC™ 25 and others.

Unreal Engine developers currently pay 0% engine royalties on all Epic Games Store sales, and this Fall we introduced Launch Everywhere with Epic. This new program for Unreal Engine developers offers a royalty rate reduction from 5% to 3.5% on all platforms and stores for eligible Unreal Engine games published on the Epic Games Store from 2025 onwards. To be eligible, games must ship on the Epic Games Store before or at the same time they’re released on other supported stores on platforms like PC, Mac, Android, and in the future, iOS.

These options give developers an opt-in tool kit to further maximize their success and margin in a large-scale store environment that goes beyond our standard 88/12 revenue share.

Lastly, our Free Games Program has continued to deliver PC favorites to new audiences for the 5th year running. Epic players stocked their libraries with over $2,000 USD worth of great PC titles across 89 giveaways. The program is not slowing down and will continue in 2025, on both PC and mobile.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the developers, publishers, players, and creators who continue to work with us to make this all possible.

Epic Games Store Features Shipped in 2024

During the year, our dev team delivered against some core initiatives that benefited both our player and developer userbase:

  • Epic Games Store on Mobile:  We released the Epic Games Store on Android worldwide and on iOS in the European Union! First launched with Epic-owned titles, we recently expanded adding the first wave of third-party games from incredible developers, the arrival of the Free Games program on mobile, and new app features, including Epic Account login, with persistent status across Epic’s games on iOS and Android. We’ve also added a new auto-update feature to the Epic Games Store Mobile app. Developers can launch their games through our store on mobile with all the same great benefits and programs as PC, including Launch Everywhere with Epic, an 88/12 rev share and optional exclusivity via Epic First Run and our Now on Epic program.

  • EA Play: We welcomed EA Play to the Epic Games Store, which gives our players access to the expansive EA catalog, exclusive discounts, and trials for subscription members—all while earning Epic Rewards back.

  • Expanded Search Beta: We introduced more ways to find games via a new feature called Expanded Search. If a game isn’t available on the Epic Games Store, Expanded Search will help you find it via the Internet Games Database. The feature is currently in live Beta.

What’s planned for the Epic Games Store in 2025?

Next year we will continue to make significant investments in the Epic Games Store with the intention of improving both the player and partner experience. Some of the highlights include:

  • Epic Games Store Mobile App: The Epic Games Store on Android and iOS will continue to be a focal point of our development roadmap throughout the next year. Initial work on the app will include building an enhanced App Library & Discover Experience to scale against an ever-increasing catalog size, and, for our developers, AAB file type Support. This is only the start; much more is still to be announced!

  • Mobile Self-Publishing Tools: Our self-publishing tools for mobile games are currently available on an invite-only beta at this time, and we’re excited to open up the tools for self service publishing to all mobile developers later this year.

  • Non-Gaming Apps: The Epic Games Store aims to allow the publishing of all types of content a gamer might need across PC and mobile offerings. Within our Self Publishing Tools, we’ll be opening up the ability to self-publish non-gaming apps offering a wider variety of content to be listed on all Epic Games Store supported platforms.

  • Gifting: Sharing is caring, particularly when it comes to gaming, and so in 2025 we’ll be adding gifting to our list of purchase options!

  • New Download Manager (PC/MAC): Originally planned for release in Q4 2024, the wait is nearly over and our PC Launcher will have an entirely new Download Manager, now arriving in Q1 2025. The functionality will include the ability to control the timing of updates, schedule downloads, and reorder your queue; amongst other quality-of-life changes.

  • Pre-Loading (PC/MAC): Pre-Loading will allow players to download and install their pre-purchased content ahead of launch, ready to play from the moment a title is officially released.

  • Search & Browse Overhaul (PC/MAC): New features including predictive search and semantic search are in development along with several under the hood improvements.  Expanded Search will move into full release with improvements.

  • Multi-Platform Social:  We’re bringing new social features to all of our players with robust support for connecting with your friends. This comes via all new voice chat, text chat, game independent parties, invite/join/play and looking-for-group features across all Epic Games Store supported platforms.

  • Platform Store Switching: Users will be able to switch from their native platform store view to other supported platforms to browse and shop for apps.
Beyond these highlights, we're also dedicated to improving your experience through continuous updates to the Launcher and Store, focusing on areas like performance, stability, and ease of use.
