How to get every unique weapon in Dead Island 2: Haus
Dead Island 2: Haus is the first story DLC for Deep Silver Dambuster Studios’ zombie apocalypse action game. As you venture deeper into an eerie manor owned by a cult, you’ll realize that it’s not just the undead that you need to watch out for—tricky puzzles and macabre scenes abound in this weird and creepy Dead Island 2 expansion.
Fear not! We’ve put together a guide that helps you acquire every unique weapon in Dead Island 2: Haus. Three of these unique weapons—the K-Prototype, Hog Roaster, and K-rossbow—are acquired as part of the DLC’s campaign. The fourth, the Dead Islands mace, is part of its own side quest, which we discuss later in our guide.
How to get the K-Prototype Crossbow
The first unique weapon in Dead Island 2: Haus is the K-Prototype, a crossbow variant. You’ll find it during The Invitation portion of the quest chain. Here’s a quick summary:
- Upon entering the forest, you have to light the pyres in the area. This is done by picking up cans of gasoline, pouring it on the pyres, and then using fire-based projectiles or explosives.
- Head to the arena section of the forest and maim 20 zombies—meaning you should either do charged attacks that hit their limbs or stomp on their heads when they’re down.
- Go down the well to find the K-Prototype.
K-Prototype mods and perks
The K-Prototype is only an uncommon weapon, as it’s the lower-tier crossbow variant in Dead Island 2: Haus. Here’s what you can expect from this armament:
- Projectile: Rupture - Target heads for critical hits. Killing blows to the head trigger an explosion.
- Mod: None.
- Perk: Merciless - Reload shortly after a critical hit to gain a moderate damage boost. This effect can stack multiple times.
From this point onward, there’s a chance for crossbows to drop as random loot. Moreover, you can use the K-Prototype or any other crossbow to shoot objects known as Dark Brains. These will remove tendrils, allowing you to enter previously blocked passageways.
How to get the Hog Roaster
The next unique weapon you can obtain in Dead Island 2: Haus is the Hog Roaster. This is found during the concluding portion of The Invitation chapter. Once you reach the diner, you’ll have to battle a boss called Long Piglet. It’s essentially a Crusher variant, so make sure you jump whenever it slams its fists on the ground. Alternatively, you can hop on top of cars to avoid the area-of-effect slam.
Once Long Piglet and the other undead have been defeated, enter the diner and pick up the Hog Roaster from the counter.
Hog Roaster mods and perks
Here’s what you can expect from this rare-tier weapon with fire-based effects:
- Sharp: Maiming - Maiming a target grants extra stamina. Target limbs for critical hits.
- Mod: Rare Melee Cremator Mod - Imbues your weapon with fire damage and gives it a moderate damage boost. Successive hits to a zombie also apply the Ignited effect.
- Perk: Sizzler - Hit an Ignited zombie to spread fire to nearby hostiles. Also, while using this weapon, you gain a moderate fire resilience boost.
How to get the K-rossbow
The K-rossbow can be yours once you complete the Dead Island 2: Haus DLC campaign. We don’t want to spoil what happens near the end, but we can say that the tasks are fairly straightforward.
After the cutscene, you should find yourself in a familiar location. If you check your inventory, you’ll notice that the K-rossbow has been added to your available weapons. If it’s not there, it might be because your inventory is already full, which means you’d have to check a storage locker.
K-rossbow mods and perks
Compared to the K-Prototype, the K-rossbow is of superior rarity, which means it’s got higher damage and two fixed perks.
- Projectile: Rupture - Target heads for critical hits. Killing blows to the head trigger an explosion.
- Mod: None.
- Perk 1: Merciless - Reload shortly after a critical hit to gain a moderate damage boost. This effect can stack multiple times.
- Perk 2: Stopping Power - Reload to gain a moderate force boost.
How to complete The Path of the Unworthy and get the Dead Islands weapon
The last unique weapon in Dead Islands 2: Haus has a very fitting name. You can obtain it upon completing The Path of the Unworthy, a Lost and Found side quest that only becomes available once you’ve beaten the DLC’s campaign.
If you manage to do that, the first step is to simply fast travel to the Serling Hotel on Ocean Avenue. Check the front desk to find the “Invitation For a Failure” letter.
Task #1: Invitation For a Failure
Clue: The note shows a set of blue flowers arranged in a circle.
Location: Return to Haus and check the village area. You’ll find the flowerbed between the two houses on the left-hand side. Take out a unique zombie named Taliah the Unworthy to receive the next clue.
Task #2: Evaluation of Inadequacy
Clue: “Below the man-made sky, I wait in one of five. Above the blade of the chosen, I sit up high. Where am I?”
Location: Still in the village area, go to the house with the Dark Brain tendrils. Destroy the Dark Brains using any crossbow weapon so you can enter the building. Then, check the attic to find a corpse with a letter, as well as the Chest of the Unworthy. The chest itself can’t be opened yet, but you should be able to read the letter for now.
Task #3: Game One - Follow, Puke, and Flush
Clue: You’ll hear the sound of music playing in a club.
Location: Go to the house at the end of the street in the village (i.e. the one leading to Veronique’s lair). Proceed further until you see the first Fury device and check the bathrooms on the left-hand side. Take out the Slobber and pick up the letter next to the corpse in the bathroom stall.
Task #4: Game Two - Listen, Crawl, Burn
Clue: You’ll hear the sound of forest animals.
Location: Return to the forest area and look for the pyre next to the Fury device. There’s another note on the dirt path.
Task #5: Game Three - Kill, Steal, Absolution
Clue: The objective is to investigate the area for evidence of the “game” that’s happening.
Location: Inspect the tree trunk behind the pyre. This will cause a couple of Butchers with unique names to spawn. The good news is that you can recharge your Fury quickly while standing next to the device, which allows you to dispatch the special infected with ease.
With both hostiles down, grab the Key to Absolution and make your way back to the village area. Enter the house with the Dark Brain tendrils and proceed to the attic. The key can be used to unlock the Chest of the Unworthy, which nets you the Dead Islands mace.
Dead Islands mods and perks
The Dead Islands mace is a superior-tier weapon. It also has several extra slots for perks:
- Blunt: Maiming - Maiming a target grants extra stamina. Target limbs for critical hits.
- Mod: None
- Perk: Special Sauce - While using this weapon, gain a moderate damage, toughness, and resilience boost against Apex variants.
There you have it! These are the unique weapons in Dead Island 2: Haus. If you want to explore this creepy new location and acquire all these goodies, be sure to pick up Dead Island 2 as well as the Haus DLC on the Epic Games Store—or grab the Dead Island 2 Expansion Pass instead and get ready for more undead hordes to come.
