Post-apocalyptic action-adventure game Stellar Blade has a surprisingly deep fishing minigame. Our guide will teach you everything you need to know about fishing in Stellar Blade, including where to find all 25 species of fish and the required bait types for each one.

When you need a break from slaying Naytibas, you can pick up a rod and cast your line at various fishing spots located throughout Stellar Blade's explorable open areas. The fishing minigame is unlocked quite early in Stellar Blade, so you can start catching fish within the first few hours of your journey. That said, there are multiple bait types, so you won't be able to catch everything as soon as you unlock the fishing minigame. It'll take you quite a while to unlock every type of bait in Stellar Blade, and some of the rarest fish are super hesitant to nibble on your line even with the best bait.

Here’s how to catch 'em all and unlock a fabulous outfit.

How to unlock fishing in Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade's fishing minigame becomes available after you finish the first few main story missions and reach the Great Desert region. This is one of the first open areas that you'll encounter in Stellar Blade, and it's a nice change of pace from the linear streets of the game's opening section.

To unlock fishing, all you have to do is talk to an NPC named Clyde at the Fishing Hut in the Great Desert. This will begin a side quest called Looking Glass, which introduces you to the game's fishing mechanics.

Clyde also sells Fishing Data, which makes certain types of fish easier to catch. Make sure to buy any Fishing Data you see in Clyde's shop—otherwise you'll waste a ton of time trying to catch bigger fish. While the description for Fishing Data may be a bit vague, it's just a straight up improvement to your catch rate for bigger fish. It's well worth the investment.

How to get Fantastic Bait

While you're free to fish to your heart's content as soon as you unlock Stellar Blade's fishing mechanic, you'll need better bait to reel in the biggest fish. After completing the Looking Glass side quest, head back to Xion and check the bulletin board to find a side quest called Wife's Water Tank.

This is the first step to unlocking Fantastic Bait, the best bait type in the entire game. After Wife's Water Tank, you'll need to complete Unforgettable Fish Dish, Fish Research, A Gift for a Fishing Maniac, and finally a side quest called "Where is the Fantastic Bait?" in order to unlock the titular Fantastic Bait.

Every Stellar Blade Fishing Spot

You can cast your line at six unique fishing spots in Stellar Blade:

  • Eidos 7 Clocktower
  • Road to the Wasteland from Xion
  • Great Desert Oasis
  • Wasteland Northern Cave
  • Wasteland Southeastern Lake
  • Eidos 9 Atelier

Some of these spots contain multiple fish species and sizes, so experimenting with different types of bait will get you some new fish for your collection. The rarest and largest fish can only be found at fishing spots near the end of Stellar Blade's main story though, so save the best bait for those areas.

While there are 25 total species of fish in Stellar Blade, you only need to catch 20 of them if you want the Lonely Fisherman achievement. It's still worth catching all 25 though, since you'll be rewarded with the Ocean Maid outfit for collecting each and every one. Unlocking new outfits for Eve is one of the best parts of Stellar Blade, so try to catch as many fish as possible!

Stellar Blade is available now on the Epic Games Store.
