Revisit more classic Lara Croft adventures next year with Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered
The release of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft earlier this year saw the belated return of a gaming icon, allowing a whole new generation of players to discover the classic Tomb Raider titles for themselves. Now, less than a year later, Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics are announcing Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.
The three-game package gives the same coat of polish to the latter three games in the original series: Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The collection releases on the Epic Games Store on February 14, 2025, and it's available for pre-purchase today.
Following in the footsteps of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered revisits the original Core Design-developed series that became a bonafide global phenomenon in the late '90s and early '00s. Like its predecessor, the package offers improved visuals, plus the ability to toggle back to the original graphics on the fly for a hit of nostalgia. It also includes a number of modern control schemes for those who are more familiar with later games in the series, though you can opt for the classic tank controls if you so choose.
As you can see in the above first look trailer, the effect of this visual revitalization is quite stark, especially when it comes to the lighting. Aspyr has used modern technology that simply wasn't available all those years ago to bring new life to these beloved levels, making them appear just as you imagined. These improvements are particularly apparent in the fine details, like intricate reliefs carved into an altar, cobwebs stitched between dank dungeon corners, and the paintings hanging on museum walls.
Tomb Raider IV-VI will also feature a dedicated Photo mode like its predecessor, complete with fresh poses to check out. And like any good remaster, it adds a number of convenient quality-of-life features that new players will appreciate, including boss health bars and achievements to mark your progress.
The three games in Tomb Raider IV-VI continue the larger-than-life adventures of archeologist-adventurer Lara Croft, known the world over for her acrobatic skills, devil-may-care attitude, and snazzy Y2K-era shades.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation sees Lara go head-to-head with a rival treasure hunter (and her one-time mentor) Werner Von Croy as she delves into the unknown tomb of the Egyptian god Set. When Von Croy steals a precious artifact from Lara and becomes possessed by Set, Lara must explore even deeper into Egyptian ruins to stop the return of this dread god. The Last Revelation improved on Tomb Raider III's combat and also introduced ropes that Lara can climb and swing from.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles follows Lara's apparent disappearance after the events of The Last Revelation, and details some previously unknown adventures that took place before and between other series entries. These include a search for the Philosopher's Stone in Rome and the Spear of Longinus aboard a Russian naval submarine. Chronicles added a number of new weapons for Lara to use, as well as the ability to swing from horizontal poles and walk across tightropes.
Considered a significant departure from the previous titles, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness begins with Lara being investigated for the apparent murder of Von Croy. It's the first game in the series to feature hand-to-hand combat and stealth mechanics, as well as a notably darker storyline. It also has a second playable character in the form of Kurtis Trent, who Lara teams up with in order to prevent antagonist Eckhardt from reviving an ancient evil monster. It saw Core Design experiment with RPG mechanics and introduce a stamina bar that governs Lara's athletic running and jumping.
By any standard, Lara Croft is one of the most important video game figures of the '90s, and the original Core Design Tomb Raiders were an indelible part of that era of gaming. After years out of the spotlight, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will enable players to run the full gauntlet of classic Lara Croft adventures on modern hardware. Strap on those dual pistols and practice your backflips, because getting to the bottom of these tombs isn't as easy as it looks.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered releases on the Epic Games Store on February 14, 2025 for $29.99. Pre-purchase this classic collection today—or get caught up with Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft, available on the Epic Games Store right now.
