Our Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - Forges of Corruption guide discusses what you can expect from the DLC, such as new enemy types and armaments. We also take a look at the new features added in a free update, offering even a full guide to uncovering all the secrets in one of the missions.
Make use of the Navigation Guide
The release of Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - Forges of Corruption also coincides with a free update that’s available to all players. One notable addition is the Navigation Guide, which you can activate by pressing the N key. While Boltgun doesn’t have a map, the Navigation Guide causes glowing markers and waypoints to appear, which will hopefully help you find your next objective.
Horde Mode will test your mettle
Another addition is Horde Mode, where Malum Caedo starts out with just his trusty chainsword. As you progress and defeat opponents, you unlock more weapons. Horde Mode also records how many heretics you’ve defeated, as well as the time you’ve spent on each level.
New enemy: Chaos Havoc
The first new enemy type that you’ll encounter in the Forges of Corruption DLC is the Chaos Havoc, a traitor Space Marine armed with a rocket launcher. Be sure to sidestep to avoid its explosive projectile, since it deals quite a lot of damage. There may even be instances when Chaos Havocs are farther away, so you should strafe between their projectiles and close the gap.
New enemy: Chaos Terminator with Lightning Claws
The regular Chaos Terminator variant is armed with an autocannon, but the DLC adds those that wield Lightning Claws. Think of these enemies as beefed up Aspiring Champions—they’ll rush your character and deal tons of damage in melee, and they're heavily armored, too.
New enemy: Helbrute
Helbrutes are boss-type enemies that you’ll encounter throughout the DLC. These once-venerated Dreadnoughts have been corrupted by the Warp. They can deal damage from a distance and restore their health periodically. Fighting them is a war of attrition—you need heavy firepower and a ton of ammo to bring them down.
New weapon: Missile Launcher
Warhammer 40K: Boltgun allows you to use a plethora of armaments, such as the Volkite Caliver, Plasma Gun, and Grav-Cannon. Now, Forges of Corruption lets you blast hostiles from afar with the Missile Launcher. The rocket flies outward in a straight line, causing an explosion in a wide area once it hits a target.
You can find the Missile Launcher in the first level, called “Into the Manufactorum.” Continue advancing until you get past the sewers, and you should see the weapon in the next area. It also appears in later missions.
New weapon: Multi-Melta
Another armament you can obtain in the DLC is the Multi-Melta. This heavy weapon fires a supercharged projectile that travels outward, though it’s more effective at close range. Each shot expends 10 ammo, so make sure you use it against tougher opponents.
The Multi-Melta is found in the DLC’s second level, “Dread Ascent.” The weapon is in a section on the right-hand side. Be forewarned that picking it up causes a couple of Chaos Terminators to spawn.
A guide to Dread Ascent's secrets
Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - Forges of Corruption has five levels where you must take on more heretics, cultists, daemons, and Chaos Space Marines. One of these missions is the aforementioned Dread Ascent, where your goal is to reach the very top of a Daemonic Forge by using lifts. The sections below discuss where you can acquire various secrets as you progress.
Secret #1: Machine Spirit
This secret is found inside a metal crate in the same chamber that has the Multi-Melta. Picking it up grants an upgrade to your currently equipped weapon.
Secret #2: Kraken Boltgun Magazine
Continue onward until you reach the large chamber that leads to a battle against several Chaos forces and the Ancient Ambull boss. Once you’ve eliminated all the hostiles, interact with the terminals down below. These will open the side doors, causing a few Ambulls to attack you.
Defeat the enemies and take a look inside one of the cells to get this secret, which gives your Boltgun a special magazine that improves its rate-of-fire.
Secret #3: Vortex Grenade
The next three secrets in Dread Ascent can be found in the last area, a wide-open space with several floors and a huge cannon in the middle.
To get the Vortex Grenade, you need to jump on the metal containers until you’re close enough to the container that’s hanging above the chasm. Activate your Charge move to gain a burst of speed, then jump across the gap.
Since there will be a lot of enemies much later in this section, we recommend keeping the Vortex Grenade handy for those hectic situations. It pulls enemies closer to the center while dealing high damage throughout its duration.
Secret #4: Munitions Boon
The next secret is the Munitions Boon, which increases your maximum ammo for the remainder of the mission. Follow the muddy water in the area until you see a small nook just past the center. The power-up is just behind some metal bars.
Secret #5: Unlimited Ammo and other bonuses
The last secret in this particular mission in Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - Forges of Corruption requires you to activate all terminals in the level. Each main chamber you come across has four consoles that you should interact with, and doing so causes your Servo-Skull to state the following message: “Power Relay engaged. Purpose: Unknown.”
The last section has more consoles that can be activated as you continue your climb. Then, when you’re told to go back down to the open area, look for another terminal with a switch—it’s near Secret #4.
Pull the lever to reveal a bunch of goodies, including Unlimited Ammo, +200 Contempt (armor), and Krak rockets for your Missile Launcher. With all these power-ups, you should be ready to face your toughest challenge yet: numerous Chaos Space Marines, Terminators, Screamers of Tzeentch, deranged cultists, and a Helbrute.
That does it for our Warhammer 40K: Boltgun - Forges of Corruption guide. We hope our tips help you on the next part of your heresy-infested adventure as Malum Caedo of the Ultramarines.
Those who wish to save Forge World Graia from Chaos forces hell-bent on bringing down the Imperium should pick up Warhammer 40K: Boltgun, which is available on the Epic Games Store, along with the Forges of Corruption DLC add-on.
