Wuthering Waves guide: What’s new in Version 1.3
Wuthering Waves, the free-to-play open-world adventure RPG from developer Kuro Games, enters its next phase with the Version 1.3 update. The Rover’s journey leads to a part of their past that’s shrouded in mystery, the Black Shores. There, you’ll meet some Resonators who may know a thing or two about the Rover’s nature.
Our Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 guide goes over what's new in this update, including the two new Resonators (Shorekeeper and Youhu), what you can expect from the main quest in the Black Shores region, and new events and companion quests.
New Resonator: Shorekeeper
Shorekeeper is a 5-star Resonator who is first introduced as part of the Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 update. She can join your roster if you manage to get her via a limited-time banner. She has the following characteristics:
- Element: Spectro
- Weapon: Rectifier
- Roles: Support and healer, traction puller, damage buffer.
Shorekeeper’s playstyle is great for improving your team’s survivability. Both her Chaos Theory Resonance Skill and Proof of Existence Intro Skill heal all members of the party. These also spawn Dim Star Butterflies, creatures that track and deal Spectro damage to nearby foes. And her Binary Butterfly Outro Skill buffs the damage dealt by any on-field Resonator for up to 30 seconds.
As for Shorekeeper’s End Loop ultimate, it lets her create a wide field that continuously heals all allies within its radius. Moreover, any Intro Skill that’s performed boosts energy regeneration further. Finally, her Astral Chord Forte Circuit causes her normal attacks to spawn enemy-tracking Flare Star Butterflies. Once she has five stacks from this effect, her next heavy attack pulls enemies toward the center of the field while dealing Spectro damage.
Simply put: Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 gives you a chance to get one of the best healers in the game. Shorekeeper’s abilities provide healing effects with high uptime, along with other buffs and support abilities, meaning she can become an integral member of your squad.
New Resonator: Youhu
Youhu is another character introduced with the Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 update. As a 4-star Resonator, she has the following characteristics:
- Element: Glacio
- Weapon: Gauntlet
- Roles: Support and healer, Resonance Skill and coordinated attack damage amplification, vibration strength reduction
Youhu, a traveling antique appraiser, is quite unique in that the antiques she obtains from her various abilities grant different effects. In the case of her Fortune’s Favor Resonance Liberation ultimate, she triggers a Glacio blast and four buttons appear on the screen. Choose one of these to acquire a particular antique. Likewise, Youhu triggers Lucky Draw with her Scroll Divination Resonance Skill, Scroll of Wonders Intro Skill, and heavy attack Frostfall. Lucky Draw activates one of four random antiques—they all deal Glacio damage, but they have different secondary effects:
- Chime: Effectively reduces enemy vibration strength.
- Ruyi: Has a higher damage coefficient compared to other antiques.
- Ding: Rams into a target to break their stance.
- Mask: Pulls in enemies along its path.
The antiques Youhu obtains and appraises grant an Auspice. At four Auspice stacks, you can unleash her Poetic Essence Forte Circuit to gain more buffs based on the combinations:
- Free Verse (four different stacks): Reduces the vibration strength of enemies.
- Antithesis (a pair of Auspices): Increases Poetic Essence’s damage by 70%.
- Double Pun (two pairs of Auspices): Additional HP restoration for the party.
- Triplet (three identical Auspices): Gain 175% increased Poetic Essence damage.
- Perfect Rhyme (four identical Auspices): Activate all aforementioned effects simultaneously.
Youhu’s playstyle is a bit more complex since it involves acquiring Auspices via the antiques she appraises in battle. However, with a bit of patience and luck, she could turn out to be a valuable member of your team.
New main quest and zone: Black Shores
Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 also sees the continuation of the main quest with Chapter 1: Act 8. We don’t want to spoil all the details in our Wuthering Waves guide, so here’s a quick summary:
- The Rover initially meets Youhu to learn about antiques from ruins near the port city of Guixu.
- While investigating, your party is attacked by a monstrous Echo, but the Shorekeeper arrives to whisk you away to the Black Shores.
- The Black Shores is a region that’s separate from the world map. It also has a slightly more futuristic theme.
- One notable activity you'll encounter is platforming sections, which you'll need to traverse while hacking through corrupted segments. The camera even switches to make the controls feel similar to a proper 2D platformer.
- Another section involves creating portals that allow you to pass through impenetrable walls and barriers.
Encore companion quest
Encore was first introduced as a Resonator in Version 1.0. Now in Version 1.3, you’ll be able to tackle her companion quest: Small Wooly, Big Adventures. This takes you on a topsy-turvy adventure in Encore’s domain, which is filled with childlike and magical whimsy. Examples of zany stuff in the environment include cloud trampolines, giant gift boxes, and drawings of sheep in the sky.
New events: Infinite Battle Simulation and Fairy Tale’s Finale
You can also expect several new events as part of Wuthering Waves Version 1.3.
For example, there’s the “Infinite Battle Simulation,” where the goal is to obtain enough Tactic Points in a run. This is done by defeating opponents quickly in the nodes that you stumble upon while exploring each domain. You may also obtain attack, defense, and critical hit buffs—gaining more buffs in a single run lets you unlock high-tier Variables. For instance, the Frosty Variable provides +10% attack after using the grapple or casting an Intro Skill, as well as a boost to the Cryospike Hoop summoned by the Wintry Variable.
Another event you can tackle is called “Fairy Tale’s Finale.” Think of this as somewhat akin to the “Do Echoids Dream of Electric Sheep?” event from Version 1.2. This is a time trial activity where you can select a powerful Echo to assist your characters in battle. However, the key difference here is that you’re facing challenging bosses and elites instead of waves of enemy mobs. Examples of opponents include a level 90 Impermanence Heron (Aunt Em) and level 90 Feilian Beringal (Nameless Evermore).
That does it for our Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 guide. We hope this article prepares you for the new characters and activities that you'll encounter as part of the game’s next phase.
