Wuthering Waves guide: What to expect from Version 2.0 and the Rinascita region
Wuthering Waves is set to enter its biggest phase yet with the Version 2.0 update releasing January 2. This time, the open-world RPG from Kuro Games takes players to the region of Rinascita, a Venice-inspired land of brilliant wonders—and sinister dangers.
Our Wuthering Waves Version 2.0 guide goes over everything you can expect from the Rinascita region, including new Resonator characters and bosses, various events and activities, and more. We also talk a bit about the main story objective that leads you to Rinascita—and beyond.
The region of Rinascita: Story and setting
Wuthering Waves Version 2.0 kicks off with a main quest called “Even When Divinity Remains Silent.” You’re contacted by the Shorekeeper, a character first introduced in Version 1.3, and told that your companion Abby’s frequency is weakening and the answer lies in the region of Rinascita.
After a harrowing journey through mist-shrouded seas, the Rover is brought to Ragunna City in Rinascita. The location's themes and designs are inspired by Venice and the Venetian Carnivale, with its rivers, gondolas, and masquerade ball events. The region is also known as the Land of Echoes, and you'll soon discover that Echoes and humans are able to peacefully coexist in this place.
However, not everything in Rinascita is sunshine and rainbows. There are dangers afoot. For instance, it’s known that some Echoes can lose control of themselves. This leads the Rover on a chase across various zones in search of Rinascita’s Sentinel.
New characters
One of the most exciting aspects of Wuthering Waves Version 2.0 is that several new characters are introduced within the first few hours of arriving in Rinascita. These include Brant, a whale-ship captain and Roccia, a shy first mate.
Along the way, the Rover is also aided by Phoebe (a guide who knows a lot about the city-state’s history), Zani (an inspector who wants to learn the truth about the events happening around you), and Carlotta (a noblewoman of the Montelli family).
Specifically for Version 2.0, only two of these five characters will be featured in banners. The first is Carlotta, a 5-star pistol wielder who uses the Glacio element:
- Role: Main DPS and Resonance Skill damage dealer.
- Playstyle: Carlotta’s basic attacks create Moldable Crystal stacks, which further enhance the later chain of her basic attacks. You can then follow this up with a heavy attack—preferably with your Forte Circuit gauge filled up—or with her Resonance Skill, which can be cast twice while also immobilizing targets.
- Resonance Liberation - Era of New Wave: You can actually cast Carlotta’s ultimate ability multiple times in succession. The first usage activates her Twilight Tango state, which lets you fire off her normal attack or ultimate up to five additional times. The fifth instance also triggers her Fatal Finale blast. Note that Carlotta’s additional shots upon activation of her ultimate rely on her Resonance Skill damage stat.
The second 5-star Rinascita character is Roccia, who’s armed with a gauntlet and the power of the Havoc element:
- Role: Concerto efficiency, heavy attack damage, and traction. Grants Havoc damage and basic attack damage amplification.
- Playstyle: Roccia mostly relies on her Acrobatic Trick Resonance Skill, which creates a tornado that pulls enemies. If you hold down the attack button, Roccia will slam on the ground three times, striking hapless foes. Of course, she’s best paired with a main DPS Havoc character like Camellya due to her Outro Skill.
- Outro Skill - Applause, Please: Grants +20% Havoc damage and +25% basic attack damage to the incoming Resonator until they’re switched out.
New weapons
We’ve also seen a couple of unique 5-star weapons in Wuthering Waves Version 2.0:
Pistol: The Last Dance
- Best-in-slot weapon for Carlotta.
- Stats: 500 ATK and 72% crit damage at level 90.
- Perk - Silent Eulogy: Increases ATK by 12%. Every time an Intro Skill or Resonance Liberation is cast, your Resonance Skill damage is increased by 48% for five seconds.
Gauntlets: Tragicomedy
- Best-in-slot weapon for Roccia.
- Stats: 587 ATK and 24.3% crit rate at level 90.
- Perk - Fool’s Warble: Increases ATK by 12%. Every time a basic attack or Intro Skill is cast, your heavy attack damage bonus increases by 48% for three seconds.
New enemies and bosses
Many foes await you in Wuthering Waves Version 2.0, including tiny critters known as Chop Chops and Abyssal Patricius opponents that look like masquerade ball dancers. However, the biggest threats are the major bosses themselves. There are three that we know of.
Lorelei: Queen of the Night
- Location: Nimbus Sanctum - Atrium of Reflections.
- Boss fight: This nymphlike Echo was once tasked with purifying the lands, but she has since been corrupted. In battle, she uses water-based abilities, including bubbles that can trap your characters.
- Resistance: Higher resistance against Havoc damage.
- Echo skill: Deal 225% Havoc damage (activation). Grants +12% Havoc damage and Resonance Liberation (main slot buff).
Sentry Construct: Gargoyle
- Location: Averardo Vault.
- Boss fight: This imposing guardian carries out its master’s orders with absolute loyalty. If you want to face it, then be ready for its multi-hit melee combo and glacial eruptions. It can also fly around while shooting projectiles or encase itself in ice.
- Resistance: Higher resistance against Glacio damage.
- Echo skill: Deals 225% Glacio damage and enhances the Strike Capacitor (activation). At max Strike Capacitor level, the Echo skill’s cooldown is reset, triggering a dive attack that deals 225% Glacio damage (bonus). Grants +12% Glacio damage and Resonance Skill damage (main slot buff).
Dragon of Dirge: Gehinnom
- Location: Penitent’s End - Figurehead Shrine.
- Boss fight: Found in the northern reaches of Rinascita, this skeletal beast calmly waits for unwary adventurers to enter its lair. Battling it requires you to pay close attention to your surroundings, since this beast can create rifts that deal constant damage, as well as skeletal spikes that emerge from the ground.
- Resistance: Higher resistance against Fusion damage.
- Echo skill: Create a Grief Rift that lasts for five seconds, periodically dealing 20.45% Fusion damage to enemies within the area (activation). Grants +12% Fusion damage and basic attack damage bonus (main slot buff).
New traversal methods and activities
Several activities and traversal methods enrich the experience as you journey across Rinascita. Below are some of the most notable finds from our time with Wuthering Waves Version 2.0:
- Wingray Grapple: You can grapple onto these Echoes that look like flying stingrays. They will then zip through the air, quickly bringing you to a new location.
- Flight: Upon reaching the Cathedral of Mercury, you’ll unlock a new function for your glider that allows you to soar through the skies. You can control your ascent and descent. Likewise, you can boost your flight speed, though it depletes your stamina faster.
- Gondolas: Some water-dwelling Echoes act as modes of transport in Ragunna and other parts of Rinascita. You can ride these creatures to sail in rivers and canals.
- Plushie Transformations: You can turn into large plushies to complete tasks, such as absorbing nightmare clouds, leaping across buildings, and punching large stone blocks in minigames.
- Permanent Event - Tales of the Isles: Obtain stamps by progressing further into the main quest, exploring the region, and completing challenges.
- Monnaie: This special token can be found all over the region. Exchange them for crafting recipes, Astrite, and other rewards at the Averardo Bank.
- Tactical Hologram - Phantom Pain: This allows you to do battle against the Sentry Construct and the Fallacy of No Return to receive Trial Coins. While rewards include various weapon upgrade and ascension materials, we suggest amassing enough Trial Coins so you can acquire the Phantom: Sentry Construct appearance.
- Rover appearance switching: If you look at the Options: Other menu, you’ll discover that you can now change the Rover’s appearance from male to female, and vice versa. This can only be done once every 24 hours.
That does it for our Wuthering Waves Version 2.0 guide. We hope this article helps as you prepare to explore the enchanting region of Rinascita.
