Isonzo - Shellshocked Units Pack
The ‘Shellshocked Units’ pack brings the exhausting and unforgiving nature of war to the forefront, representing injured and wearied Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops that you don’t see on propaganda posters. Items include torn and patched up clothing, ersatz improvised equipment, and stripped down uniforms with anything non-essential discarded. There is a new uniform for each role across the Italian and Austro-Hungarian factions, as well as headgear variants, mustaches, bandages, and new faces.
The ‘Shellshocked Units’ pack contains 40+ items:
6 Italian Uniforms
13 Italian Headgear Items
6 Austro-Hungarian Uniforms
12 Austro-Hungarian Headgear Items
5 Facial Items
5 Mustaches
2 Faces (one per faction)
More details about the 'Shellshocked Units' pack:
With fatigue and disillusion setting in after being promised a glorious war, military drill was frequently ignored and uniforms were worn in whichever way soldiers chose. Shortages of basic materials like leather would see the introduction of “Ersatz” style equipment in both the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies.
With this DLC, the Austro-Hungarian Army gets tattered and improvised uniforms representing their exhausted state after years of war. The rifleman loadout for example showcases a large open great coat and loose-fitting trousers, while the engineer has an ill-fitting tunic and hastily bandaged injuries. Cheaper ersatz equipment like simplified bayonets and pressed metal pouches feature heavily. Even the usual splendor of the officer is somewhat muted, wearing a black armband as a show of mourning.
Italian soldiers appear in a similar state, often missing equipment like ammo pouches and belts. An Arditi uniform has an open tunic and British bandoliers, the mountaineer wears a moleskin tunic instead of wool. The Italian engineer gets a uniform from the Compagnia della Morte or ‘Company of Death’ – heavily armored precursors to the Arditi shock troops, who were often tasked with clearing barbed wire in the first waves of an assault.
Both Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops get headwear showing signs of intense use, from damaged helmets and tattered caps to bandaged injuries.
Several facial hair styles are also included, from the mustache of weapons designer Paul Mauser to the extravagant beard of Archduke Friedrich the Duke of Techen. Facial customization items are additional bandages with bloodied faces, worn as standalone items for all factions. The two new faces are gaunt and drawn.
