Q: Chess Ultra has crossplay features, how do I play with my friends who play on Steam?

A: It’s simple! When launching the game, select your Steam friends list when the option is displayed on the home screen.

Q: How do I launch Chess Ultra in VR mode?

A: To launch in VR mode, follow the steps below:

  1. In your Epic Games library, click the 3 dots to the right of Chess Ultra and select Manage.

  2. Under Installation, click on the folder icon to open the game’s install location.

  3. From here, right-click on the Chess2 exe and then click Create shortcut.

  4. Copy the Chess2- Shortcut to your desktop. Right-click on it, and select Properties.

  5. In the Shortcut Properties window, select the Shortcut tab. In the Target section, go to the end of the line, add a space and type -vr. Click Apply & then OK.

Opening the game from this newly created shortcut will allow the game to boot in VR mode as long as your headset is connected.

Chess Ultra is a really solid game of chess. It looks beautiful and has some quality tranquil music that varies by the locations elected, including a few songs with lyrics. The robust tutorial and vast number of challenges ensure that solo players can learn the game and have a great time, and cross-platform multiplayer is awesome too.

Chess Ultra is one of the best chess games available at the moment, but is let down by the blurriness in the VR portion of the game that puts some strain on the eyes. Aside from this shortcoming, Chess Ultra is basically the complete package for chess fans, and for those who would like to get into chess due to featuring the in depth tutorials and guides that educate about one of the world's oldest games.
