Twist and Shout!
The beating heart of Chivalry’s gameplay lies in the fighting, and for Chivalry 2 we’ve designed one of the best melee combat systems ever. Movements of the mouse or right thumbstick are not only tied to aiming the camera. They’re also tied to your character’s hips and determine the trajectory of your swing. Initiating an attack and making sure it lands before your opponent’s does relies on turning your hips at the correct moment, leaning into the swing to ensure your blade meets their body faster. A battlecry, which you can perform on command, is essential after a good kill too.
Understand Each of the Classes and Weapons
We’re not just recommending this so you can decide on your favorite. It’s important to know the movesets of your opponents. As such, playing around with the various abilities and attacks that the classes and weapons have is a great way to learn what your enemies are capable of when you’re fully kitted with your favorite loadout. Find yourself dueling an opponent who is wielding a slow and heavy greatsword? Equip a faster option, such as a one handed sword, to dish out swings, overheads and stabs faster than your foe can defend against your whirlwind of steel.Try not to hurt your teammates!
I know, I know. Seeing your teammate struggling to keep their ground when locked in a 1v1 may seem like a sign to go help them out, but more often than not you can end up getting in their way or hurting them yourself. In these scenarios, stick to narrow attack types that swing on a vertical angle or that thrust directly forward, like an overhead or or stab - to limit your swipes from hurting your allies. If your teammate ends up dying though, feel free to try and avenge their death by going after that wounded enemy. Odds are, their stamina and health are pretty low.
Customize!
As you continue to level up in Chivalry 2 - by scoring kills, assists and supporting your team’s path to victory - you’ll receive Gold, which can be redeemed for cosmetics that allow you to customize your character! Go ahead and dig around to see what you like. There are tons of options, so go hog wild!
Practice Your Skills in 1v1 Duels
They may seem intimidating at first, but there is no better mode in the game for practicing the mechanics with another player than the 1v1 Duel servers available on PC. If you’re having trouble figuring out the timing of your swings, or would like to hone in on your preferred loadout, hop into a 1v1 server. Who cares if you get killed? That’s part of the fun!
There you have it! Follow these few tips to get started on your conquest towards knighthood! Chivalry 2 launches worldwide on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store today at 11am ET. So much work has gone into making one of the best melee combat games ever, and we’re looking forward to meeting each and every one of you on the battlefield. For glory!
