A Storied Legacy

The Ys series follows the exploits of protagonist and legendary adventurer, Adol Christin. Each installment is a self-contained story and chronicles Adol's far-flung travels over the course of his life—adventures as numerous as they are eventful. Adol remains the primary protagonist of the series, but he’s accompanied by unforgettable allies and friends over the course of his adventures.

Despite the series' fantastic veneer, fans may recognize various parallels to real-life history and culture that shape and influence the rich world inhabited by Adol and his companions.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, the series' latest installment, brings Adol and his loyal companion, Dogi, to the bustling city of Balduq. Originally built as a fortress, the city has since repurposed itself around Balduq Prison, a penitentiary as imposing as it is mysterious. Located within the northeastern region of Gllia, the area was recently ravaged by war and taken by Romun forces. 

Within the city walls, relations remain strained between citizens, occupying Romun soldiers, and local Hieroglyph Church authorities. Among all these societal and political tensions, however, strange entities known as Monstrums have emerged, each possessing unique and dangerous abilities, throwing the general public into fear and panic. Just how many secrets are guarded by this city? And what truths will they reveal...?

Similar to previous installments, Ys IX delivers with a fast-paced action battle system, allowing the player to seamlessly explore dungeon areas while taking out any baddies standing in their path. With each party member boasting their own skill set and abilities, new allies allow for strategic advantages during battles and trials. What's more, special Gifts unique to each member, such as wall-running and flight, unlock access to new districts, outlooks, treasures and secrets as you explore the vast, mysterious cityscape of Balduq.
