Before Your Eyes, the emotional narrative games you play with your real-life eyes, is up on the Epic Games Store

Your blinks do many things— allowing you to interact with the world around you, reveal the environment, engage in fun mini-games and even make important narrative choices. But when you see the metronome come up at the bottom of the screen, it means you’re running out of time. The next time you blink, you’ll jump forward in time. A simple mechanic which perfectly encapsulates the universal struggle against time itself— no matter how hard you try to keep your eyes open, you will have to blink at some point, and so the story will keep on moving.
And keep moving it did. After our short demo won the Student Award at GDC, we took the game to Kickstarter. Then a year became two years. Two years became four. Meanwhile, our lives churned underneath us. Relationships ended and started, old friendships were tested and strained, some of us got married, started families, moved cities, and lost loved ones. We set about making a game about processing and accepting death, and we’ve had to process our share of grief and pain over the course of making it. So making this game about the highs and lows of life really became a source therapy for us— a place where we could work out some of the tougher feelings of growing older and of losing loved one. Our ultimate hope now that it’s done, is that it might in some small way provide a similar service to you, should you choose to play it.
So we hope you’ll take a chance on something different and try this game for yourself. We can promise, you’ve never played anything quite like it. We can’t wait to hear what you think.
