Choose workers based on their perks


Blacksmith Master allows you to hire various types of workers. Naturally, Blacksmiths are the most important members of your labor force. Each Blacksmith character has three specializations:
  • Metalworking: How fast it takes to process ingots on the Anvil
  • Carpentry: How fast it takes to process wood on the Carpentry Workbench
  • Design: How many design points are earned in a day via the Design Table
Characters, by default, also have one positive and one negative trait, and these combinations are completely randomized. These traits may affect the following:
  • Movement speed
  • Experience points (XP) gain
  • Ingot processing and heating time
  • Wood processing time
  • Design Point acquisition
  • Daily wages that you need to pay
If you don’t like a batch of candidates, you can refresh the selection pool, though the cost increases each time. If you find a worker that you prefer, you can hire them by paying the initial recruitment cost. From there, you need to pay their daily wage, which increases as they level up.

Select Blacksmith level-up bonuses and tasks that complement innate traits


Speaking of leveling up, one of the most important Blacksmith Master tips to remember is that Blacksmith-type characters should have bonuses that complement their innate traits. As you can see in the image above, one of our workers has perks that speed up the processing and heating time for ingots. That means it’s best to only allocate points into Metalworking each time they level.

Moreover, Blacksmiths ought to have a crafting preference that focuses on items that use a particular resource. As such, a worker with a keen focus on Metalworking should have metal items as a preference—i.e., bludgeons, tomahawks, tankards, goblets, and the like.
 

Diversify your options when picking merchant offers and potential rewards


Throughout the course of the game, your main sources of income are merchant offers. Basically, you need to craft a certain number of items to satisfy an NPC’s order, which you’ll receive a reward for completing. These include gold, Design Points, Mastery Points, blueprints, and even chests with random loot.

Generally speaking, the NPCs will remain outside your store until their order is fully completed. Once you’re done, you can select a new merchant offer from the list. Watch out for bottlenecks in your production and crafting chain


Workers automatically handle crafting processes in your store if there’s an active merchant order. However, they might end up standing in long queues if there’s a bottleneck in your production chain. As such, you might want to place additional fixtures like a Furnace, Anvil, Carpentry Table, or the like. The faster your characters craft items, the faster you earn rewards.
 

Hire assistants to lighten the load


Eventually, you’ll gain access to Assistants, another type of worker that specializes in carrying around all sorts of materials. Assistants can transport items from storage chests directly to waiting merchants. Likewise, they can restock resources from the warehouse and smelt ingots for later use. You have to assign them to a particular task so they can automatically act.
 

Use Mastery Points to unlock new improvements and functions


One of the most notable features in the game is the mastery tree, which lets you unlock more fixtures and functions for your shop. These include the following:
  • The ability to hire more skilled workers, including those at a higher level and those with two positive traits
  • More merchant offers to choose from
  • Discounts when restocking ingots and wood
  • Functions such as upgrading blueprints and smelting ore

These are unlocked by spending Mastery Points, denoted by tokens acquired from each item that you craft. Mastery Points also have rarities, and it’s possible to spend higher-tier tokens on lower-tier options. This brings us to yet another important facet of the game: Design Points.

Amass Design Points to improve the rarities of items and acquire new blueprints


You can upgrade the rarities of your craftable blueprints through the following method:
  • Unlock the Blueprints Upgrade mastery
  • Place a Design Table in your shop
  • Assign a Blacksmith for the task, ideally someone with Design-related perks/skill points
The assigned character earns a set number of Design Points each day based on their skill level. In turn, you can spend Design Points to improve item rarity from common, uncommon, rare, epic, and (finally) legendary. Each item’s selling price also increases with its rarity. Similarly, the item also nets you the corresponding rarity for Mastery Points whenever you craft it.

Later, you may unlock new crafting blueprints as well, which allow you to make even more items such as ladles, longbows, butcher knives, and more advanced contraptions.
 

Decorate your store to entice more customers

You don’t need to sell your wares solely to merchants. That’s because you can also entice customers to visit your establishment. Here’s how to do it:
  • Unlock the Store by spending Mastery Points
  • Go to the Store tab and place a Checkout Counter in your shop
  • Hire a Cashier, preferably someone with high communication or customer attraction traits
  • Place down racks that can store different crafted items
  • Assign a couple of Blacksmiths to craft items exclusively for racks
  • Go to the Decorations tab and place paintings, banners, plants, and lights all around your shop
  • Certain types of decorations must exceed the number of racks in your store to gain a bonus from customers
  • Use mines and forests to obtain more raw materials
Normally, you restock ingots and wood by spending gold. Later on, you can make use of special locations to acquire these resources passively:
  • Unlock the Oak Forest/Pine Forest and Iron Mine/Copper/Silver Mine masteries
  • Hire Lumberjacks for your forests and Miners for your mines
  • These workers run out of stamina eventually, which means they need to take breaks during the day
