The Earth is dying. In order to give humanity a fighting chance at survival, a crew of astronauts must embark on a desperate mission to the Red Planet in order to retrieve technology that can save our planet. Set 10 years after the dramatic Fortuna mission in Deliver Us The Moon, you’ll take on the role of Kathy Johanson, an astronaut-in-training who joins the crew of the Zephyr space shuttle. Their mission: to recover colony ships known as ARKs, which may hold the power to reverse the devastating effects of climate change on Earth. The ARKs are currently in the possession of Outward, a shadowy organisation that fled Earth and took these ships to Mars in an attempt to start a settlement on the Red Planet – getting them back won’t be easy.
Kathy has a personal motive for joining the mission, however. Her father, Isaac – a fugitive who escaped with Outward after being forced to leave his daughter behind when she was a child – may still be alive. When she receives a mysterious transmission from the Red Planet that hints at his survival, Kathy is determined to find its source and discover the fate of her long-lost father. In her journey through the game, Kathy will need to weigh up the cost of her personal stake in the mission, next to the wider goals of saving Earth.
Once players crash-land on Mars, they will explore a multitude of environments as Kathy searches for the ARKs. Alongside the landscapes of red sand that are synonymous with the planet, players will venture into icy valleys, abandoned colonies and the interiors of enormous ARK vessels – with sections of the game also taking place on Earth and the Moon in flashbacks sequences. These stunning locations offer different gameplay challenges that escalate in difficulty as players delve deeper into the story.
In Deliver Us Mars, precision is key. Kathy’s climbing axes are the only thing that separate her from the abyss below as she ascends the landscapes of the Red Planet. Each axe is mapped to the controller triggers or mouse buttons, with the new platforming system designed to be fun to learn, but precise enough to require genuine skill as you carefully navigate cliff sides and stop Kathy from falling to an instant death.
Deliver Us Mars sets the bar even higher for this series. The result is an unforgettable adventure that intertwines deep storytelling, atmospheric environments, and an array of challenging gameplay types as part of an extraordinary interactive journey.
