Hello, test subjects!

Steve here, Creative Director and Producer at Pixel Maniacs. We’re very excited to announce you can finally play our debut title ChromaGun on the Epic Games Store! [insert applause sound] Since we launched the game a few years ago, players have been loving it. “Portal, but with colors” they call it. “Perfect, for the time you’re waiting for the next Portal”. “The closest thing we’ll ever get to a Portal sequel”. And let me tell you something: They know what’s what.

ChromaGun is a first-person puzzler about, you guessed it, colors. Use your color-shooting gun (I’ll let you guess what it’s called), to paint droids and walls. Droids are drawn to walls of the same color. By cleverly using this mechanic, you’ll get to solve all sorts of puzzles to make it to the exit of the test chambers. The ChromaGun can only shoot red, yellow, and blue. “But what about orange, and purple, and green?” Excellent question. We’ve got you covered. Shoot an already colored wall (or droid), to mix primary colors into secondary colors. Be wary of gray, though. Since it’s technically not a color, it loses all its attraction properties!

Now, if you feel like running around white test chambers, with a gun that doesn’t fire bullets, and a snarky narrator giving you the runaround sounds familiar to you, then I have good news for you. You’re not crazy! On first sight, ChromaGun looks remarkably similar to a certain game made by that other company that also runs a digital games store and shall remain nameless. And guess what, we did that on purpose. There’s the narrator, the clean lab-like environment, the non-gun gun, and a bunch of other nods to the mother of all puzzle shooters. Heck, we even have cake! (Or do we? [We do.])

All similarities aside — in terms of gameplay, ChromaGun is as different from Portal as an apple is from a pineapple. The names look similar, they’re both sweet, but you can only make a Piña Colada with one of them. The biggest difference (and we cannot stress this one enough)... There. Are. No. Portals. In ChromaGun, you don’t have to get your interdimensional funk on — it’s color-based puzzles all the way. And no worries if you’re bad with colors, there’s a color-blind mode for all the chromatically challenged out there.
