Epic Parties bring cross-ecosystem voice chat to Fortnite, Epic Games Launcher and mobile apps
You can now party up and voice chat with friends across Fortnite (on all supported platforms), Epic Games Store (available from epicgames.com (Opens in new tab) on PC, Mac, iOS, Android), and the Epic Games app (available on the iOS App Store (Opens in new tab) and Android Google Play Store (Opens in new tab)).
With Epic Parties you can:
- Voice chat from more places. While you’re in an Epic Party on PC, you can voice chat with friends playing Fortnite on console and other friends who are on Epic’s mobile apps. If you're voice chatting on mobile, you can background apps and keep the chat going while you’re on the move.
- Move voice chat between devices. If you’re voice chatting from the PC Launcher or the Epic mobile apps, you’ll see an option to transfer your voice chat so you don’t drop the audio when you jump into Fortnite.
- Play different games on PC while you chat. You can minimize the Launcher and voice chat with your party while playing other games from Epic Games Store.
- Automatically jump into the same Fortnite Lobby. When your friends accept an Epic Party invite, they’ll automatically land in the same Lobby as you when they boot up Fortnite.
How to get started:
1. Open up the Friends list from the Epic Games Launcher, Fortnite and Epic mobile apps.
2. If you see your friend online, hit “Invite to Party”. If your friend is already in a Party, you can hop into their chat by hitting “Join”.
3. Once your friend accepts, you’ll be able to start voice chatting.
Note: If you’re already in a group text chat, you can hit the “Start Party” button right in that chat window to invite everyone into a voice chat.
In addition to being able to mute, block and report other players, if you suspect Community Rule (Opens in new tab) violations in voice chat, you can submit a voice report (Opens in new tab) in Epic Parties.
What’s Next
Our social efforts share the same goal as Unreal Engine 6: an open ecosystem where your social connections and in-game purchases go with you from game to game. Today’s update is the next step toward a unified social experience across, and beyond, the Epic ecosystem.
Later this year, we’re extending social avatars beyond Fortnite so friends and party members can see your avatar everywhere you go.
These features are coming to Rocket League next year with its move to Unreal Engine 6. And we're working to bring these social features to all developers, supporting all platforms, all stores, and all engines, in 2027.
