The battle for Italy begins today: our WW1 FPS Isonzo is out now! Italian soldiers battle the Austro-Hungarian Empire for control of the mountains and valleys of the Alps. We've worked to create the most authentic game covering this underrepresented theatre of the First World War. Our release trailer shows off a pitched battle for Fort Corbin on the Asiago Plateau, in which you can see all the things that make Isonzo special… starting with the stunning Alpine landscapes - no endless muddy fields here!
 

Refight Historical Battles

All the locations in the trailer are based on the real battle for Monte Cengio, and our team did extensive research to recreate key terrain features and make sure everything was accurately modelled - from the weapons and fortifications to the distinctive Alpine rocks and plants. We draw from a wide variety of sources when designing and building our multi-map Offensives: everything from period photos and maps to geographical data, museum visits, and war diaries. Each Offensive is a historical battle, with between 1-3 maps depending on how long the battle lasted or how much area it covered. The enormous Sixth Battle of the Isonzo features three maps, featuring dangerous river crossings, scaling Monte Sabotino, urban combat in the city of Gorizia, and more! Six Tactical Roles

There are six classes to choose from in Isonzo, each with specific uniforms based on historical units (like the Italian Alpini or Austro-Hungarian SturmTruppe) different equipment to choose from, and a different role to play. Officers lead the way with their whistles and flare guns to call in support from heavy artillery or biplane bombers, Assault troops wield grenades, melee weapons or light machine guns to devastating effect, and Marksmen snipe from long range or lay down accurate close quarters covering fire. Engineers for defence or quickly demolish obstacles on the attack, while Riflemen keep their team supplied with ammo and provide fire support with rifle grenades. Last but certainly not least, the Mountaineer can perform recon, infiltrate enemy lines, and even build trench periscopes allowing their teammates to perform safe spotting.

Looking The Part

Players will be able to customize their appearance in game while maintaining historical authenticity. As we said before, each class has associated uniforms and hats or helmets - for instance the Italian assault class can wear the uniform of the elite Arditi shock troops. On top of this, players can choose their moustache (lots of options, many based on historic personalities) and an accessory item like glasses or a bandage. If you want more options, there are cosmetic DLC packs containing extra customization options based around a particular theme. The Alpine Units pack contains white snow camouflage uniforms for the Italians for example, while offering warm greatcoats for the Austro-Hungarian classes. Balaclavas and beards go perfectly with the cold weather gear, but can be freely combined with other uniforms for a unique appearance.  There’s even a free Avanti Savoia DLC pack that everyone can collect for free in the first week after launch - it contains staff officer uniforms for the Officer class as well as accessories and reading glasses - including the ‘Rennenkampf’ that our community voted their favourite WW1 moustache!
