Earth may have been overtaken by the forces of evil, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. Remnant II continues the fight against the otherworldly evils that threaten to take what's left—of humanity, the future, and all that remains.

Remnant II builds on Remnant: From the Ashes in big ways, iterating on its Soulslike gameplay and increasing the procedurally generated content. This now covers everything from enemy types, environmental aesthetics, boss characters, and even quests. You and your team will need to be ready for anything, and our guide to the game’s archetypes will help you prep for battle.

Remnant II provides five character archetypes, each with different powers and perks to blow away your enemies. These combat tips will help you sort your strategies and plan your moves, regardless of the character type you choose.

Though the game can be completed with any character type—and with or without friends—each class presents its own set of abilities and challenges, providing every player with choices and variety through every campaign. This makes Remnant II YOUR game—no matter how you choose to play.

And yes, don’t worry—there is a cute dog, and it can help you in combat!

The Gunslinger

The Gunslinger archetype’s perks and capabilities bring action, speed, and accuracy to the mix. They give the most-skilled players no reason to ever stop blasting enemies that lay in your path, especially if your aim is true.

The Gunslinger's "Prime Perk" is called Loaded, and it reloads both the player's guns automatically each time another archetype skill is activated—and the Gunslinger has a LOT of them. If you keep the shots and powers popping, Loaded will continue to add to your arsenal. This is thanks to the perk’s other plus, which adds to your Infinite Reserve Ammo.

Stay sharp, never stop firing, and your Gunslinger will never run out of ammo while rolling through the world of Remnant II.

The Bulletstorm Perk ups the ante even further by unleashing the full potential of guns. This temporarily transforms manual firearms into automatic weapons, so you can keep firing on all cylinders.

It also increases damage for bows and crossbows too, and their projectile speed is boosted by 50%. This helps enemies take a "bow"—pushing them to their knees quickly.

The player’s overall firing rate and reload speeds are boosted as well—by 20 and 50 percent respectively—which keeps the shots going all night long. Each and every weapon fires more quickly as a result, dishing out devastating damage across the battlefield and leaving a wake of destruction behind you.

The Sidewinder Perk loads allows players to ADS (aim down sights) even faster, which reduces the time it takes to line up shots and allows players to pack even more damage into every second they spend firing. Sidewinder lets players pull out their weapons and aim down the line at enemies 50% faster than usual. These guns will be fully reloaded when you equip them, giving you a good reason to cycle back and forth between them. You'll mix up your shots, but never your aim.

The Quick Draw perk unlocks the ability to unleash unprecedented damage while hip-firing, so enemies can never get the drop on you—as if they ever could anyway.

Style, finesse, grace—and more ammo than you could ever fit into any combat clip—give this the class the edge players are looking for. If you like first-person shooters, but you think reloading is for chumps, then there’s no other option than the Gunslinger.

The Handler

Every game is better with a puppy in it. This is especially true for Remnant II, where players can help their canine companion be a good boy while destroying enemies and healing fallen allies across the game’s campaign.

Nearly all the Handler’s perks build up the combat powers and defense of both the player and their trusty guard dog. The Handler's Prime Perk, Bonded, is perhaps the most magical of these abilities, as it allows the dog to revive the player. Players can already revive each other, but this bond allows your canine friend to keep you alive longer during both single and multiplayer sessions.

The Attack Dog and Guard Dog perks round out the training for your canine pal, ensuring that they are ready for anything that might lay ahead. Luckily for you and your crew, the dog’s bark in Remnant II is just as bad as its bite. Attack Dog increases your companion’s attack power by 20%, while also allowing players to target your dog's movements, unleash powerful howls, and more. Guard Dog drastically improves defense and reduces friendly fire damage from the companion’s howls.

The Handler’s Kinship Archetype trait forges an even stronger bond for your guard dog by reducing all damage (including friendly fire) up to 80%, making your dog more formidable than ever. The Handler can keep any mission running smooth for a team, but it’s an essential pick for players choosing to tackle Remnant II solo.

The Challenger

This close-to-midrange battler doesn’t hold back. Heavily armored and dealing massive damage to enemies unfortunate enough to be in range, it’s the perfect class for aggressive players who want to barrel into battle.

One key to the Challenger’s aggression is its Prime Perk, Die Hard, which allows the player to battle back from the brink of death. It gives you five seconds of invulnerability and 100 percent health regeneration. Since it's incredibly powerful, it also comes with a 10-minute cooldown.

To help the player dive into battle, the Challenger can send shockwaves with its War Stomp ability, which staggers and damages foes in multiple directions. It can down enemies and clear a path.

The Rampage Perk increases the Challenger’s firing rate by 15% and its reload and movement speeds by 20%, giving players no reason to slow down the carnage. There’s no wave of enemies that can’t be swiped away by the Challenger’s abilities, which makes the character archetype an essential pick for any squad—despite its vulnerable defense and health in the early goings. In the end, there’s no obstacle or enemy that will be too much for the Challenger to carve through.

Once players unlock Strong Back, the improved armor possibilities make the Challenger almost invincible. This means that heavier sets of defensive gear can be worn with less of an encumbrance penalty, which increases as players level up the skill.

And if all else fails, the Juggernaut Perk can turn the powerful character into a nearly unstoppable force. The Juggernaut increases both melee and movement speed by 15% while also packing in 50% more punch into your melee attacks, which push enemies back until there’s no one left. They can’t run or hide, because death is inevitable.

The enemies of Remnant II may be powerful, but nothing is too much for your team’s combined might. Just don’t forget to visit the upgrade screens often in order to keep your powers and combat abilities climbing faster than your enemy's capabilities. You'll want to keep spending points on traits and powers as you pour hour after hour into Remnant II, either alone or with your squad of two friends.

The Medic

The skills of the Medic are designed to keep teams healed and at their best, to keep the mission moving.

The Medic’s Prime Perk is Regenerator, and its power is incredible. Once the Medic has restored a set amount of health – to themselves or allies – they regain a Relic charge, turning all of that restored health into a stack of even more triage and power.

Wellspring is a stationary skill, but it can still save any team in distress. The Medic punches a hole into the ground that emits healing energy from a well for you and your squad. Players will want to be strategic in where these wells are placed, since they cannot be moved from their original position. The Healing Shield protects you and your squad while near you, allowing you to continue moving if the journey calls for it.

Redemption is another crucial skill that will save any squad in need of help. The skill revives all downed players and continues to heal the entire time, over a duration of time, allowing everyone to find their footing and turn the tide of any battle.

The Hunter

The Hunter has heightened long-range abilities, which allows teams to gain an edge in battle as soon as they start.

Dead to Rights, the Hunter’s Prime Perk, is deadly in more ways than one, extending the duration of every skill players set off, and the perk’s duration is extended with each enemy’s weak spot that players manage to hit. The perk also includes ‘Marked’, which allows the Hunter and their teammates to see enemies through walls, making them easier to hit and with an increased chance for a critical hit.

Hunter’s Mark, the Hunter’s first skill, does for the entire team, marking every enemy within wide range. No enemies will be able to hide or escape from you.

Hunter’s Focus and Hunter’s Shroud both add to the archetype’s deadly and stealthy capabilities, but Longshot, the Hunter’s archetype trait, increases the range of every single weapon, including shotguns, creating the ultimate long-range powerhouse for you and your crew in Remnant 2.

Remnant II is out now on the Epic Games Store.
