How to Thrive in the Apocalypse in Surviving the Aftermath
L
Lasse Liljedahl
Our game is a survival colony builder set in a post-apocalyptic world. The world is in ruins, leaving those who are left to wander the wasteland and see their colony through each day. Catastrophes and bandits are a constant threat, but opportunity calls for those who look.
This is the world each player faces when the game starts, tasking them with the goal to build a thriving colony. We put together these tips to help players get an edge on surviving the post-apocalypse.

Go with the flow
Building placement, and the distance between them, all have a significant impact on survival. Establishing functioning production chains, effective logistics, and supporting infrastructure are the key to a thriving colony.
There is no one right way to build a colony as it depends on multiple factors, but a good way to start is to focus on finding a balance between placement of production and storage facilities in relation to resource deposits and shelters. Of course, there are other things that need to be taken into account. For instance, supporting infrastructure like shelters are necessary for every colonist, and must be there to serve the basic colonist needs.

Food for the Soul
Just like all of us, colonists are hungry and need food regularly to stay alive, but to survive long term they also need a healthy diet. The berries and meat in the early game won’t be a permanent solution. Every colonist needs a balanced diet with protein or meat, and vegetables to stay healthy and avoid malnutrition. Each food type has a different nutrition value, so discovering or trading better seeds is important later on in the game.
Progressing from early game raw ingredients to cooked meals and other improved food options have other benefits as well. Usually, advanced food types are less contaminated and better to keep starving bellies full for longer periods of time.

A Whole New World
Surviving requires exploring the world and learning how to take advantage of the world outside your gates. The world map offers many things that can’t be acquired within the colony, including unique and more advanced resources, and science points essential to progression in the tech tree. There are also other societies also trying to build a better future, and they are usually more than willing to trade resources and unique items that can’t be found elsewhere.

Those are just a few basics to get you started and through your first catastrophe or two. However, the wastelands are always changing and threats increase the longer you survive, so be prepared.
