LEGO Fortnite Odyssey’s new NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja update transports players to a huge island full of martial arts-themed weapons, Stations, resources, and characters to find, plus an entire story-based campaign to play through.

If you’re a veteran of LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, a lot of it will feel familiar—but there are also a ton of upgrades, tweaks, and differences to understand. In this guide, we’ll show you how to become a Ninja master in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja. 
 

How to find NINJAGO Island

All of the action takes place on NINJAGO Island, and there are two ways to get there. 

If you have an existing LEGO Fortnite Odyssey world, just load it up, and you’ll be transported there. If not, you can start a new Survival world, and you’ll automatically begin on NINJAGO Island. 
 

The campaign

NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja is a full, story-based campaign. 

It begins at night during a storm. You’ll meet Niall, who thanks you for being a literal lifesaver. Open the nearby Chest, and you’ll find some of NINJAGO Island’s special items: a Regeneration Charm and Health Charm. Equip them to get bonuses, and then head down the path where you’ll meet Seliel, the Phantom Ninja, and receive your Nunchucks. Seliel will be your weapons-focused buddy throughout your time on NINJAGO Island, and Ninja Weapons are her specialty. 

On a bridge leading to the Monastery, you’ll fight your way through some enemies who appear from a Portal. Defeat them, and you’ll collect Chaos Embers and throw them into the looming Portal. 

Head up toward the Ninja Monastery, and you’ll meet Lloyd, the Green Ninja and ELEMENTAL Master of Energy. He’s your other constant companion here on NINJAGO Island. Follow him to the Dragon Stables, and you’ll find yourself in a familiar fight. 

But first, you need your free Spinjitzu Scroll, an item at the core of the NINJAGO Island experience. It gives you the ability to Double Jump, effectively eliminate fall damage with Breakfall Landing, sprint throughout the world with Ninja Run, and disassemble your enemies with the powerful Spinjitzu Tornado attack. 

Craft some items with Seliel, collect your Glider from Lloyd, and head down below to defeat some Betrayers in your first Chaos Challenge. Collect the nearby loot, and fast travel or teleport back to the Monastery. With at least 50 Essence, you can unlock the 5-Star Health Charm from your Mastery menu. Craft that at a Ninja Workbench, and you’ll be even more powerful with a bonus 200 health. 

This introduction to NINJAGO Island is like a microcosm of the campaign. As you explore the mysteries behind the dire situation on NINJAGO Island, you’ll find additional Portals and challenging enemies, and upgrade your Ninja strength until you can vanquish the forces of evil. 

To do that, you’ll need to master some new (but familiar) systems. Here’s how they work. 
 

Understanding Ninja Mastery 

When the story of LEGO Fortnite Odyssey NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja begins, you’re just a nascent Ninja. But as it unfolds, you'll become more and more powerful. That happens not just because of what you do, but also because of what you unlock. 

The Mastery menu is basically a blueprint for becoming a master Ninja. 

In the Mastery > NINJAGO menu, you’ll find four sub-menus: Ninja Masteries, Ice Masteries, Lightning Masteries, and Earth Masteries. And inside each of those, you’ll find recipes for Scrolls, Relics, and Health Charms, plus abilities like Steel Mining, Opal Mining, and more. Using those, you’ll create ever more powerful items and abilities, tailored to your preferences and your adversaries. 

If you're new to LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, there's also the existing Mastery > Hero menu, where you'll find three more tabs: Rift Ripper, Shadow Caller, and The Hunter. They all have weapons and Ability Equipment for you to unlock. For example, you can unlock the Shard Slinger weapon in the Ice Masteries menu and create a weapon that tosses Rift Shards at your enemies. 

As you overcome the forces of evil, return to these menus often and unlock as many items as you can as quickly as you can. 
 

Learn ninja moves with Spinjitzu Scrolls and ELEMENTAL abilities

Spinjitzu Scrolls are passive equipment: You find or craft them, equip them, and get their benefits just from having them equipped. You pick up your first Spinjitzu Scroll at the beginning of the NINJAGO Island adventure, gaining Double Jump, Breakfall Landing, Ninja Run, and Spinjitzu Tornado—and there are plenty more to find and craft. 

If you know NINJAGO, then you know that ELEMENTAL abilities play a big part in the lore. No surprise then that the same is true on NINJAGO Island, where you’ll have access to Fire, Lightning, and Earth Spinjitzu Scrolls across three tiers: Novice, Advanced, and Master. At each tier, your moves deal more damage and require less stamina. 

Each ELEMENTAL Spinjitzu Scroll adds its own unique spin on your basic moves. The Novice Ice Spinjitzu Scroll, for example, takes your regular Spinjitzu Tornado move and turns it into the Spinjitzu Tornado of Ice, dealing ELEMENTAL damage to enemies. The same goes for Lightning and Earth, with the Spinjitzu Tornado of Lightning and Spinjitzu Tornado of Earth, respectively. 

These ELEMENTAL abilities also give you an edge against enemies that are weak to specific ELEMENTS. Ice is strong against Fire, Lightning is strong against Ice, and Earth is strong against Lightning. Remember that when you’re fighting enemies who are on fire, for instance—Ice will give you an edge. 
 

Understanding new Ninja resources

If you’ve played LEGO Fortnite Odyssey before, you’ll notice a lot of familiar items and resources. Much remains the same, but with a NINJAGO-flavored spin. 

Bamboo is a Ninja’s preferred resource, taking the place of Wood in many NINJAGO-focused creations. You’ll see new bamboo plants growing in beautiful, green clusters all around NINJAGO Island. 

Kozustone is a Ninja-focused Stone used for crafting items in the same way you’d use a resource like Granite elsewhere. Higher-tier Stone also exists, like the Dragon Opal Gem. 

Ink is a resource that you’ll use to craft Ninja Scrolls. Shrines are scattered throughout NINJAGO Island, and they’re wellsprings for Ink. Just like the Spinjitzu Scrolls, Ink is an ELEMENTAL resource, available as regular Ink, Earth Ink, Ice Ink, and Lightning Ink. 

Ritual Oil is a resource that you can get from defeating tough enemies, for example. Use it at a Ritual Altar to craft resources and Ninja weapons. A simple example: Bamboo and Ritual Oil combine to create Honed Bamboo. 

ELEMENTAL Energy is a resource tied to crafting ELEMENTAL Weapons. Defeating ELEMENTAL Creatures will let you collect the ELEMENTAL Energy they drop. 
 

New Ninja stations 

The Ritual Altar turns resources like Bamboo into Honed Bamboo and Kozustone into Honed Kozustone, just like the Lumber Mill turns Wood into Wooden Rods. 

The Ninja Workbench is the Station where you craft Ninja Weapons, Spinjitzu Scrolls, Charms, and Totems with resources that you collect or hone at the Ritual Altar. When you craft a weapon at a Ninja Workbench, you can optionally add a Relic and give the weapon an ELEMENTAL bonus. Adding an Ice Relic to even basic Nunchucks, for example, creates Nunchucks imbued with ELEMENTAL Ice, which gives you a big advantage against Fire. Or you could add a Power Relic and just increase your attack power against all enemies. 
 

New Ninja Weapons 

Nunchucks and Shurikens are the weapons of choice for a martial arts master, and both are available on NINJAGO Island. 

You’ll get basic Nunchucks in your first moments with LEGO Fortnite Odyssey NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja, and you can craft ever better versions as you play through the update, collect resources, and add Relics to the weapons you craft. 

Shurikens will appear in your game a little later, as you venture far from the Ninja Monastery. They’re fantastic ranged weapons, and you can toss them rapidly at your enemies with both hands. 
 

Outfits and LEGO Pass

The characters from LEGO Fortnite Odyssey NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja aren’t limited to LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. You can take them into Battle Royale and other Fortnite games. 

NINJAGO characters Zane, Jay, and Cole all have Outfits in the Shop—they look like their classic minifigure versions in LEGO Fortnite and like more realistic Ninjas elsewhere. Kai is part of the NINJAGO LEGO Pass, and you’ll unlock it as soon as you buy the Pass. The LEGO Pass also has unlockable Builds and Decor.
