Let fly with colors as you puzzle your way through ChromaGun 2

My appointment should have finished half an hour before, but I was absolutely absorbed in ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard.
Like its predecessor, ChromaGun 2 is a first-person puzzle game where you shoot paintable objects with a color gun. You’re armed with red, blue, and yellow paint, and every surface can hold up to two colors. There are plenty of times you’ll need to use your knowledge of primary colors to create green, orange, or purple. Shoot an object with a third color, and it turns black. You can also take back the last color you shot. And don’t worry—there’s even a color-blind accessibility mode.
You solve most of these puzzles by manipulating giant floating robot droids to move over switches that energize a door or object. This eventually allows you to move forward through the Portal-esque office space of odd rooms enriched by a droll narrator. The droids are attracted to objects of the same color, so you have to turn the object the color of the robot or vice versa, or maybe colorize both. As can be expected, the further into the game you get, the more complex the puzzles become.
The original ChromaGun, which came out in 2015, is essentially a simpler version of this sequel. This time around, German developers Pixel Maniacs have greatly increased the size of the game and the complexity of the puzzles.
As I continued to make my way through the rooms, I eventually came across a dimensional tunnel that dropped me into a different reality, complete with a new narrator with an entirely different tone. The biggest difference, though, was the look of the area. In one case, I dropped into a dimension that seemed like it was pulled from a comic book, complete with splashes of onomatopoeic words like "KAPOW" when I would pull the trigger. Another level appeared to be a farm, the robotic balls replaced by… rotund chickens.
It’s not a wholly benign puzzler, though. There are times when the robot spheres will come after you and try to hurt you when you shoot them to change colors. This makes things more difficult, but also opens up another avenue to solving puzzles. While you can die in the game, it’s quite difficult, and there's no health bar displayed. The developers are expecting to release the game later this year.
