Things are heating up for the summer as Marvel Rivals enters another season, this one known as Sins of Alchemax. Featuring two new additions to the roster—Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops—NetEase Games’ team-based hero shooter is sure to keep you coming back for more.

Aside from Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops, what else can you expect from Marvel Rivals Season 8? Naturally, there’s a new battle pass, a limited-time event, and a bunch of cosmetics. Let’s go straight to the details, shall we?

New Vanguard hero: Devil Dinosaur

Devil Dinosaur was a native of Dinosaur World before he was thrown across multiple dimensions. Having initially appeared in-game as a captive in the Collector’s Museum of Contemplation, this Tyrannosaurus-esque behemoth ended up staying in the Monster Kingdom for a while. That’s when he learned that his closest companion, Moon Girl, has been imprisoned in the massive corporate headquarters of Alchemax.
I genuinely love the fact that Devil Dinosaur is in Marvel Rivals Season 8, partly because there’s another Vanguard hero that I can play as. Here are his abilities:
  • Primal Bite (LMB): Forward bite that applies a Bleed effect.
  • Impact Beam (RMB): Fire a beam that applies Bleed and Slow, and also knocks down airborne targets.
  • Savage Predation (Left Shift): Dash and pounce, while applying a Bleed effect. If your target is already bleeding, clamp down before hurling them away.
  • Buddy Barrier (E key): Create a spherical shield that blocks incoming damage. Enemies caught within the barrier are slowed.
  • Frenzied Feast (F key): Unleash a flurry of continuous bites, converting damage dealt to bonus health. This deals extra damage to bleeding targets.
  • Devil-Beast Rampage (Q key): Gain a massive movement speed boost, while stomping to launch enemies and applying a Bleed effect. Your roars also emit sonic waves that Slow enemies.
  • Prehistoric Plating (Passive): You take reduced damage from critical hits. You are immune to launch, knockback, and other displacement effects. Allies and enemies generate less ultimate energy when healing or damaging you.
  • Apex Advantage (Passive): Gain bonus health whenever you inflict Bleed and deal damage.

Devil Dinosaur's abilities make him an awe-inspiring sight in Marvel Rivals Season 8. After playing a few matches, this rampaging reptile might just be my new favorite Vanguard character.

Savage Predation allows me to get into the thick of the fray, which I often follow up with a Buddy Barrier activation to mitigate damage. While enemies are clustered around me, I’m able to hit them hard and cause them to bleed by using Primal Bite and Impact Beam. Frenzied Feast and the Apex Advantage passive, meanwhile, boost offense and survivability by synergizing with the Bleed effects that I’ve already applied. Prehistoric Plating is also great, since I no longer need to worry about getting tossed around by most crowd-control skills.

As an aside, Devil Dinosaur currently has only one team-up and it’s with the Punisher. This Prehistoric Partner ability allows Punisher to use Devil Dinosaur as a mount. Frank Castle will be restricted to just his normal attacks and grenades, but he has improved damage reduction and the healing received is also shared between the two. How’s that for a walking tank and a turret with guns blazing? All in all, Devil Dinosaur’s tankiness and sheer ferocity in combat make him a must-try character for Vanguard class aficionados. As lead combat designer Zhiyong stated in a video, this T-rex’s arrival will surely “shake up the battlefield.”

The Project: Heroic Age Battlepass and other cosmetics

The Marvel Rivals Season 8 battlepass, Project: Heroic Age, is certainly in keeping with the dinosaur theme. That’s because the instant unlock reward is none other than Jeff the Land Shark in a red T-rex costume.

The battlepass itself includes numerous cosmetic skins for your favorite heroes, with certain quirks given the prehistoric creatures (Savage Land) and the threat of Alchemax (Corporate Raiders) in the game:
  • Space Outlaws: Rogue (Starlit Rebel) and Mantis (Starlit Madonna).
  • Savage Land: Magneto (Untamed Overlord) and Captain America (Primal Patriot).
  • Corporate Raiders: Gambit (Barrier Buster) and Star-Lord (Glory Gunner).
  • Others: Human Torch (Silver Spark), Thor (Unworthy Thor), and The Thing (Infinity Thing).
In addition to the above, a couple of costumes have been added to the store:
  • The Infinity Hulk Bundle includes the titular costume, as well as the Puny Zombies MVP, the Infinite Power emote, Infinity Hulk nameplate, and Infinity Hulk spray. This discounted bundle costs 1,600 units.
  • Deadpool and Devil Dinosaur have their own Chrono-Armor and Monster King Combo Bundle. It includes the two premium skins and all sorts of emotes and emojis. This discounted bundle costs 2,500 units.

The Devil Dino Hide-and-Seek Event and the Sins of Alchemax

This event in Marvel Rivals Season 8 features Devil Dinosaur and Moon Girl. Similar to previous events, you have to complete a series of missions in a round to unlock the next stage. The first four rounds are available simultaneously, and additional ones are unlocked every 24 hours afterward. Prizes include a nameplate, spray, and two Sins of Alchemax gallery cards.

Speaking of the Sins of Alchemax, we mentioned earlier that, story-wise, Moon Girl is being held in the Alchemax base. She’s not the only captive, since Cyclops himself is being tortured deep within the laboratories. As brainy characters like Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic help engineer a device for Devil Dinosaur, the X-Men also swoop in to save their team leader.

It looks like the heroes are gearing up for a big fight against a hostile corporation in Marvel Rivals Season 8. Devil Dinosaur is on the frontlines now, but Cyclops is set to become available during the second phase of the season, which starts on June 12.

Marvel Rivals is free-to-play on the Epic Games Store.
