Mongil: Star Dive has nearly two dozen characters to choose from at launch, and some of their appearances can be deceiving. Certain units are much stronger than others — even if it may not look like it at first.

Mongil: Star Dive has a very cutesy art style that skews more toward Pokemon than other contemporary gacha games, so you won't see much in the way of armored warriors or edgy dudes with giant swords. Some of Mongil: Star Dive's best characters are unassuming maids or soft-spoken fox monks.

To help you spend your pulls and figure out who to target, these are the best characters in Mongil: Star Dive.
Mongil Star Dive Tier List Every Character Ranked S Tier

S-Tier

These characters are the best of the best. They fit well into any roster, and they can carry weaker units through harder content.
  • Esther
  • Jiwon
  • Flare
Leading the charge for S-tier is Esther, Mongil: Star Dive's first limited unit that most players are chasing during the launch window. As an Assassin, she can deal huge damage in any scenario. The Dust Cloud created by her ability enhances her attacks even further, and her ultimate is one of the strongest in the entire game.

Esther gets even stronger when paired with Jiwon, another Wind unit who fits squarely into S-tier. She's easily one of the best supports in Mongil: Star Dive. Her whole kit revolves around amplifying allies' damage, and she can also reduce stamina consumption to keep your team on the offensive.

Rounding out S-tier is Flare, who is currently the best Fire DPS unit in Mongil: Star Dive. In addition to her already excellent damage output, her abilities apply debuffs to enemies that make them more vulnerable. She's a very straightforward character to play, but her results speak for themselves.
Mongil Star Dive Tier List Every Character Ranked A Tier

A-Tier

These characters are incredibly strong, but they don't have that special sauce to get them into S-tier. You'll have a great time if you pull any of these units, even if there are slightly better options.
  • Francis
  • Ophelia
  • Gabi
  • Penny
Moving on to A-tier, Francis is an incredibly solid support option for players who can't pull a five-star unit like Jiwon. Francis can boost your team's damage output with reliable attack buffs, and she also has some healing in her kit that'll help you survive tougher battles.

Next up is Ophelia, a strong Ice DPS that you can target on Mongil: Star Dive's standard banner. Ophelia is all about critical hits, featuring a special state called Amethyst Witch that boosts both critical hit rate and damage. She's another very straightforward DPS unit, but she can melt even the toughest enemies in just a few slashes.

Gabi is very similar to Ophelia on paper, building up stacks of a special Crushing Blow meter for big damage, but Gabi's damage output is slightly lower. Gabi's real strength lies in her defensive buffs, but those really aren't necessary outside of very specific situations in Mongil: Star Dive. Still, Gabi is one of the best options for teams in need of a defensive tank-style fighter.

Finally, Penny is the last unit in A-tier. One of the game's best Electric DPS units, Penny has excellent area-of-effect damage. She generates coins during battle that enhance her special skill, and they're easy to collect. Penny just doesn't have a lot going for her compared to other units, and she needs Seeds of Awakening from duplicate pulls to really shine.
Mongil Star Dive Tier List Every Character Ranked B Tier

B-Tier

These characters are useful, but they're outclassed by units that can fill the same roles more effectively.
  • Sangun
  • Angel
  • Cloud
  • Verna
  • Benjamin
  • Ellie
  • Yeonwha
  • Leeho
B-tier is where most of Mongil: Star Dive's characters end up, and Sangun is one of the better units in this category. A five-star Wind character, Sangun excels at pulling enemies together for big damage. Sangun's passive gives him an attack speed buff, but it's not enough to bring his damage in line with stronger characters.

Angel is one of Mongil: Star Dive's most popular characters, but she's another middle of the road B-tier unit. She's great for single-target scenarios where she can reliably apply the Wanted status to the correct enemy, but the randomness of her passive hurts her in crowded battles. Still, she's a great sub-DPS for Fire teams.

Cloud is the male MC of Mongil: Star Dive, and like most gacha protagonists, he's incredibly average. Cloud can handle most situations with his ranged Ice attacks, and his ultimate is one of the best ways to debuff enemies for an Ice-centric team. He doesn't have anything else to make him stand out, though.

Verna — the game's other protagonist — also lands in B-tier. She prefers fighting up close to complement Cloud's ranged attacks, but she's outclassed by most other Fire units in Mongil: Star Dive. If you need a decent Fire DPS for your team, though, you could do worse than Verna.

Benjamin is Mongil: Star Dive's stereotypical smooth-talking rogue, dealing Lightning damage with twin swords. He gets a buff when avoiding damage for a few seconds, and he can apply Lighting Resistance Reduction when he's off the field. He's a good choice for a Lightning sub-DPS.

Ellie is an Earth DPS that has a very specific playstyle, which hampers her effectiveness in some team compositions. Just like Penny generates Coins, Ellie generates Snacks that let her perform a special attack. When you tag Ellie out, she'll stay on the field in a Sleepy state and generate Snacks for your allies. Managing Ellie's Sleepy state is the key to success with her, so she's not a great fit for certain lineups that have other mechanics to juggle.

Yeonwha is another Lightning Assassin similar to Benjamin. She creates a shadow clone of herself that significantly increases her damage output, and she can perform follow-up strikes when allies land critical hits during combat. Yeonwha's special skill is a flashy dodge, so you need fast reflexes to get the most out of her.

Finally, Leeho rounds out B-tier with decent Fire damage capabilities. His main draw is the Prey Mark, which reduces enemies' Fire Resistance. He's a solid sub-DPS for Fire teams, but his damage output leaves a lot to be desired if he's the focal point of your offense.
Mongil Star Dive Tier List Every Character Ranked C Tier

C-Tier

Some of these units can shine in very specific team compositions and builds, but you'll have an easier time using any of the other characters on the roster.
  • Bonnie
  • Daisy
  • Reina
  • Sera
Bonnie is one of Mongil: Star Dive's most popular characters, and everyone gets this bubbly musician for free during the gacha tutorial. Her kit is designed around maximizing allies' Wind damage. Outside of a Wind team, she's not much help. Her lack of healing or shields makes her a generally weaker Support unit as well.

Daisy is another Support that many players will pull because of her four-star rarity, but she's not as strong as Mongil: Star Dive's other Support units. She's a pure healer that can restore your team's HP, but she's not good for much else. With some Awakening upgrades, however, she can revive fallen teammates!

Reina is a four-star Lightning DPS that can restore her own HP, making her a great tank for teams that need a defensive frontliner. While her self-sustain is impressive, her damage output is sorely lacking compared to other Lightning options. She needs other units to swap in for quick burst damage to make her a worthwhile addition to your team.

Sera is the last unit in C-tier, an Ice DPS who excels at crowd control by pulling enemies together. She also gets a boost to critical damage against any enemies with Ice Affliction, so she can see some big numbers on the battlefield. She's not the strongest Ice option in Mongil: Star Dive, but you can still see success with her on your roster.
