A new superhero-packed cinematic universe is starting to take shape at DC. Blue Beetle, a new movie starring Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña, just hit theaters. And while James Gunns's new cinematic universe doesn't officially kick off until 2025 with Superman Legacy, characters like the Beetle will be sticking around in the years (and films) to come.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

The best thing about superheroes is the party they have when they get together. Who doesn't love a good team up? LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham has a cast of characters longer than the special effects credits on the last Suicide Squad movie.

The LEGO games rarely disappoint, and Beyond Gotham's lighthearted gameplay and fun level design make it a perfect stroll through a different DC universe. Batman, Joker, Superman, Wonder Woman, and dozens of others are playable in this massive and hysterical team-up that’s easy to enjoy without worrying about a stiff challenge.

The Telltale Batman

Play through 10 episodes of Telltale's take on the Gotham Universe with The Telltale Batman collection, featuring Batman: The Telltale Series and Batman: The Enemy Within. Classic characters like Alfred, Bruce Wayne, Batman, Harvey Dent, and Jack Oswald White make their way back to center stage, though you’ll uncover significant changes to the Batman mythos along the way.

Telltale's signature art style may share little with Matt Reeves's slower, darker take on the caped crusader in 2022’s The Batman, but they share similar themes—especially given Telltale's narrative-focused gameplay. While he's still a major brawler, these Batman adventures take special care to highlight his analytical and detective skills. Segments of the games have you search small areas while piecing together scattered bits of evidence, like a lone rose left on a body or a huge hole in the end of a shipping container.

The Batman is getting a sequel, The Batman Part II, in 2025. Telltale's two-season-long story arc could be a fun way to fill time between the two movies.
 

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Some of the spiciest fights you'll get from the Gotham Guardian are found in Rocksteady's epic trilogy of Batman games: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight.

Encounters with supervillains like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Solomon Grundy showcase those characters in grimy and threatening style. Mr. Freeze, for example, tracks your location using body heat scans. He almost always knows where you are, making sneak attacks that much tougher. Most bosses require a similarly creative approach to combat.

And then there are Riddler's special trophies. Collecting them all is a challenge, forcing you to (for instance) use a voice synthesizer to mimic the Riddler’s voice, take control of his special robots, and use them to find his hidden trophies.

The Arkham series and Matt Reeves's The Batman both share Frank Miller's grimmer take on the Caped Crusader. Miller’s stories helped usher in the Dark Age of Comics, and this digital version of Gotham and its decaying prison are just as scary.
 

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights is an open-world RPG where you play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. With Batman dead, this group of heroes is left to quell the subsequent rise in criminal activity within Gotham City. It's a fantastic story about Batman where you don't play as or see much of him at all.

Chaos has erupted across Gotham as villains from across the franchise’s history run rampant in the wake of Batman’s death. Less recognizable characters (like Clayface and Man-Bat) need to be taken down multiple times all over the city. There are plenty of iconic characters you'll need to silence as well—including one that's been brought back from the grave. Quests to uncover plots by Freeze, The Penguin, Talon, the Court of Owls, and others make for an exciting time in Gotham.

Gotham Knights is a fun open-world romp, especially as you can dress Robin and Batgirl in a wide variety of iconic suits. Reliving moments from classic and modern superhero media is always better when you can do it in style.
 

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

This cooperative third-person action adventure lets you play as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot, and others as you fight through Metropolis in order to stop the alien invader Brainiac and kill the members of the Justice League who he brainwashed.

Gameplay footage showcased at the beginning of the year shows all those characters flying around the city with wild mobility options, including Captain Boomerang's super speed jumps and Harley Quinn's grapple gun.

Even though Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is getting tweaked more before its 2024 release, developer Rocksteady’s track record with the Arkham series is stellar.

Batman, Superman, and the rest of the DC crew have starred in a number of games, but you can always quickly jump into Rocket League or Fortnite and play as characters like Batman and Superman—even if it is only in car form.
