Resident Evil Requiem guide: 15 tips you need to know before you play

But numerous dangers lurk ahead, which is why we’ve put together a Resident Evil Requiem guide to help you survive. We discuss various facets related to combat and exploration, as well as some overall pointers for the core gameplay experience.

The differences between Leon and Grace in Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem’s campaign structure regularly switches between the perspectives of Leon and Grace—hence why you should familiarize yourself with key gameplay mechanics that differ between the two.
- Grace’s segments have a distinct survival horror theme. By default, she uses a first-person camera POV.
- Leon’s segments have more of an action-horror flair and a focus on combat. By default, he uses a third-person camera POV.
Choose your targets carefully or avoid hostiles entirely
An important Resident Evil Requiem tip to remember is that sometimes it’s better to avoid confronting the infected directly, especially if you don’t have enough ammo to spare. In these situations, you can look for alternate pathways or just try to keep your distance from hostiles as you move through corridors. If you really need to take out a foe, then you should pick the most threatening target.
Use stealth whenever you can in Resident Evil Requiem
Some infected won’t notice you initially. If possible, try to sneak up on them to land a killing blow.
- Grace can use the Hemolytic Injector to make a zombie explode into bits.
- Leon can chop off their heads with his Hatchet.
Master the art of melee combat to stagger your foes
The aforementioned Hatchet lets Leon go toe-to-toe against multiple hostiles. He can parry blows to negate damage, and is able to sharpen the weapon if its durability is low.
Grace gains access to a few melee weapons too, such as the Makeshift Knife. This can be used to stab and temporarily stagger opponents. An enemy that’s staggered is vulnerable to a melee push (Grace) or martial arts kick (Leon). On the other hand, if you get grabbed, having a melee weapon lets you free yourself more quickly.
Use enemy-held weapons against them
Some infected can wield various weapons, including polearms, clubs, firearms, and even chainsaws. The good news is you can use their own armaments against them.
An enemy that’s defeated or staggered will drop the weapon that it’s carrying. Some objects can be thrown or swung around to damage nearby zombies. The chainsaw, meanwhile, can shred entire undead hordes. Just try to avoid the revved blade while it’s still spinning.
The most effective use of pistols, shotguns, and sniper rifles
Throughout the course of the campaign, Leon will be able to utilize a plethora of guns, including pistols, shotguns, and sniper rifles. Handguns are good enough for picking off weaker undead. Shotguns ought to be reserved for tougher opponents and bosses. As for the sniper rifle, it’s great for taking out targets at a distance and landing devastating headshots.
It’s also worth noting that both Leon and Grace have access to the titular Requiem, a powerful handgun that uses high-caliber bullets. The Requiem easily brings down most infected variants and it reliably staggers elites and bosses, though ammo is scarce.
Beware of mutated Blister Heads
One more Resident Evil Requiem tip that you should keep in mind is this: Always destroy the heads of infected whenever possible, whether via Grace’s Hemolytic Injector or Leon’s Hatchet and high-caliber guns.
If a zombie’s head is still intact, it can mutate into a Blister Head later in the game. A Blister Head moves and attacks much faster than its previously deceased form. You need to unload a lot of shots into it just to bring it down.
Watch out for the Girl
The Girl is a nightmarish creature that you encounter several times during Grace’s chapters. You can’t just walk up to her and expect to survive. Your only choice is to run for your life.
Thankfully, the Girl has one major weakness: light. Look for well-lit rooms so you know where you need to go. Oh, and watch out for holes in the ceiling, as she can emerge from those nooks too.
Keep or combine those handy healing items
The Resident Evil franchise has shown players the value of keeping a few Green Herbs handy, and Resident Evil Requiem is no exception. You’ll find these plants scattered in various areas while exploring and you can use them to replenish lost health. Of course, it’s probably better to combine them to create more potent restoratives.
Note that another item called the Med Injector is akin to a First Aid Spray. It’s just as effective as using a combination of three Green Herbs, since it fully heals your character.
Acquire Infected Blood, Scrap, and other materials used for crafting
Speaking of healing up, it’s a good idea to craft various items using the Scrap materials you’ve obtained. That said, there are some key differences as to how crafting works for either character.
- Crafting with Leon is more straightforward, as he just combines Scrap with Gunpowder to make all sorts of ammo.
- Crafting with Grace is slightly more complex. You need to unlock recipes via laser microscopes. From there, you have to collect Infected Blood either from environmental stains, transfusion bags, or slain foes. Infected Blood is then combined with resources like Scrap to create ammo and injectors.
Manage your inventory via storage crates and supply boxes
Another notable difference between Grace and Leon is how you manage their respective inventories.
Grace:
- Limited storage space.
- You need to place items in storage crates and retrieve them later.
- You can increase her inventory slots by finding Hip Pouch upgrades.
Leon:
- Later in the campaign, Leon will gain access to supply boxes. He’ll also earn credits by killing enemies and collecting Tracking Modules.
- Supply boxes let you exchange credits for weapons, ammo, upgrades, body armor, and a one-time inventory slot upgrade.
- To save inventory space, you should sell weapons you don’t need via supply boxes. It’s still possible to repurchase these armaments down the line.
Be on the lookout for destructible crates and climbable structures
Various objects with yellow tape, ropes, or paint can be interacted with or destroyed.
- Crates often contain helpful items like ammo and crafting materials.
- Hanging briefcases can be looted if you shoot them.
- Shoot the chains off of ladders so you can climb structures.
Snag collectibles and special items like Mr. Raccoon statuettes
The places that you visit in Resident Evil Requiem are chock-full of secrets and other goodies.
- Mr. Raccoon: These statuettes, many of which are well-hidden, emit a noise akin to a wind-up toy.
- Charms: These accessories provide buffs and are either kept in the inventory (as Grace) or attached to guns (as Leon).
- Locked drawers, safes, and cargo containers: These containers require passcodes or keys. You’re bound to find worthwhile loot, including unique weapons, weapon parts, and accessories.
Pay attention to clues from files
There are 75 files scattered around numerous locations. Most have background lore to help you understand the story. Others offer more aid, such as documents that list the passcodes for locked safes and those that provide clues related to puzzles. You can open and read the files you’ve discovered when interacting with puzzles, if needed.
Complete even more challenges on your next playthrough
As with other games in the series, one Resident Evil Requiem playthrough just isn’t enough. By the time you complete the campaign, you’ll realize that there are more challenges in store. Perhaps you plan on acquiring every file and collectible? Maybe you want to speedrun the whole thing in less than four hours? How about finishing the whole ordeal without using a single healing item?
