If you grabbed the loot-filled Skull and Bones Premium Edition from the Epic Games Store, you’re now free to sail into infamy. Three days of early access to Ubisoft’s pirate open-world, co-op RPG begins now.

Deck yourself and your ship with the The Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection, enjoy the pair of extra missions, listen to the soundtrack while reading the digital artbook, and, most importantly, head off into adventure.

If you played the previous beta, you can pick up where you left off. If you’re starting anew, the sea is your oyster. Begin building your legend with a single-masted ship and rags for clothes before plundering your way to the top.

It’s been a long time coming. We watched through a spyglass as Skull and Bones slowly approached, patiently waiting with only glimpses of what’s on offer. We spied a detailed, action-filled adventure in our first preview. One that our writer, Matt Cabral, found accessible and tactical while rewarding as he sailed off into unknown waters: “I set out on a story-driven path that—during the closed beta—was fleshed out by 15 missions. But even when straying from the critical path, I was able to interact with NPCs and tackle the sort of narrative-supporting, character-progressing side activities that typically dot the maps of single-player, open-world romps.”

And when Julian Benson captained a second beta voyage, he sunk his time into mastering the ship-to-ship combat. He wrote: “My first shot misses; the cannonball disappears harmlessly into the deep ocean waves. Now alerted, the merchant fires a distress flare into the night sky, calling for help. My long guns take an age to reload, but with my next shot, I hit the ship’s weak spot, which is highlighted with a red aura. The lead shot shreds half of the enemy’s hit points. If I can close the distance before my target’s allies arrive, all while it fires its broadside of cannons at me, I can board it and steal its precious cargo. It’s the moments like this where Ubisoft’s open-world pirate ‘em up Skull & Bones comes alive.”

And now it’s your turn. Skull and Bones Premium Edition is live now on the Epic Games Store. The standard edition goes live on Feb 16.
