Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a breath of fresh air for CCG lovers, as you'll see in this guide. The original Shadowverse CCG was already enjoyable, but Worlds Beyond adds even more depth for experienced deckbuilders and helpful onboarding tips for newcomers who want to see what all the hype is about.

Shadowverse works similarly to other CCGs on the surface level, but there are a few key mechanics that make it stand out from the crowd. Even if you don't want to dive into the nitty gritty of the competitive scene, there are a bunch of fun, casual ways to enjoy Shadowverse solo or with friends.

If you're checking out Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, use these beginner tips to get the most out of the game and start unlocking the best cards.

Claim your daily free packs and Rupies

Just like other collectible card games, you have to crack open packs to get new cards in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond. You don't have to crack open your wallet to get new booster packs, though.

Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond gives you a free card pack every single day just for logging in. Even if you don't feel like playing Shadowverse on a given day, it's worth taking a few minutes to boot the game up and claim your daily pack. It'll go to waste otherwise, since the free packs don't stack.

There are also several ways to earn free Rupies, which is Shadowverse's primary currency. From daily quests to free packs you can claim from pre-registration rewards and other milestones, you'll be showered in free stuff during your first few hours with the game.

Prioritize First Farer missions for fast rewards

Speaking of free rewards, your First Farer Missions should be your main priority if you're new to Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond. Accessed from the main menu, these are beginner quests that give you a bunch of free Rupies and card packs for checking out the game's basic features.

You don't have to go very far out of your way to complete these quests either, since they're as simple as playing matches, collecting cards, and customizing decks. Once you complete all of them, you'll get to choose one of the nine prebuilt tutorial decks to unlock permanently.

Play the tutorials on Shadowverse’s unique mechanics and deck types

This brings us to Shadowverse's tutorials, which are key to understanding the game. You can skip the most basic tutorials if you're already familiar with card game fundamentals, but you should absolutely not skip those about Shadowverse's unique mechanics and deck types.

Learning how to evolve and super evolve your cards is crucial, and understanding the core tenets of deckbuilding will make your life a whole lot easier. Thankfully, Shadowverse's tutorials are brief, and they also reward you for your time with Rupies and other items.

Pay close attention to the tutorial battles involving each of the prebuilt decks, as you can choose one of them to unlock permanently after completing all of your First Farer Missions. Each deck has a radically different playstyle, and you may find yourself enjoying decks centered around Shadowverse's unique card attributes like Puppets or Officers.

Learn Shadowverse’s pack pull rates and odds

If you're going to spend a lot of time cracking open packs to get new cards, you should at least learn the pull rates for each card type so you know what you're getting into.

Every Shadowverse card pack contains at least one Silver, Gold, or Legendary card. Legendaries are exceptionally rare, but you're guaranteed to get at least one Legendary card in every 10 packs. Think of it like a pity system in a gacha game. Every card also has an 8% chance of being animated, but that's just a cosmetic effect.

You'll get eight cards in every Shadowverse pack, and the rarity rates vary slightly for each card within. The first seven cards in a pack have a 1.5% chance to be Legendary, a 6% chance to be Gold, a 25% chance to be Silver, and a 67.44% chance to be Bronze. The eighth and final card in a pack boosts the Silver drop rate to 92.44% and completely eliminates Bronze cards from the pool.

To put it in layman's terms, you're guaranteed to get at least one Silver or higher card in every pack. That's why the eighth card slot boosts the Silver drop rate and cuts out Bronze cards. Every card you pull has a 1.5% chance to be Legendary, which is a little higher than one in 100 odds.

On top of the Legendary and animated card chase, you'll also be hunting for Exchange Tickets. These have a 0.06% chance to drop as one of the first seven cards in every pack. You can use them to unlock Leaders or fully animated card sets from the additional rewards section on the card packs screen. There's a pity system for these as well, with a Lucky Chest containing a random Exchange Ticket appearing after you open 250 packs.

Choose the right beginner deck for your playstyle

Building your own deck is the most important part of Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, but the game doesn't expect you to be a master deckbuilding strategist right from the get-go. Use the prebuilt beginner deck tutorials to get a feel for the game and each of its classes. Pick a favorite and really get to know its quirks.

As we stated before, you can permanently unlock one of those tutorial decks by completing your First Farer Missions, which will give you a decent jumping-on point for PvP battles against other players. Once you've spent enough time with your favorite prebuilt deck, you should have a solid starting idea for your first custom Shadowverse deck.

Understand every class in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond

Your cards aren't the only things that matter in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond. Each deck has a Leader representing a certain class like Dragoncraft or Portalcraft that dictates your main playstyle.

Different classes open up countless possibilities for deckbuilding, so you should focus on learning what each of them do before you start planning your own custom deck.

Dragoncraft decks, for example, focus on increasing your maximum play points so you can overwhelm your opponent with powerful cards with high point costs. Portalcraft decks, on the other hand, focus on summoning low cost cards and duplicate minions like Puppets to dominate the battlefield.

Use evolutions and super evolutions strategically

Evolutions are the main gimmick that separate Shadowverse from other CCGs, and you need to learn how to make the most of your evolution points if you want to win more matches.

You can evolve and super evolve any of your active cards, but you only have a limited pool of points for each upgrade. You have to be very selective with the cards you choose to evolve.

Evolutions improve a card's HP and attack values and can also trigger unique effects (or retrigger existing bonuses), giving you the upper hand in certain scenarios. Super evolutions take things even further, greatly buffing the specified card and granting it special powers. Any enemy minion that gets defeated by a super evolved card gets knocked back, dealing one damage to the other player.

Relax and learn at Shadowverse Park

Ranked matches and hardcore PvP modes may seem like the most important things in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, but it's important to check out casual modes like Shadowverse Park as well.

Shadowverse Park is basically a hub area where players can hang out and play friendly matches against each other. If you've played fighting games like Street Fighter 6 or Guilty Gear Strive, then you already have an idea of how Shadowverse Park works.

Shadowverse Park is one of the best ways for new players to learn the ropes. There's no pressure, and the low stakes create a great learning environment. You can also spectate ongoing matches and pick up on strategies from watching the best players in the lobby dominate a table.

At the very least, you should check out Shadowverse Park for the free rewards. You can complete daily and weekly quests to earn Park Keys, which you can spend to open chests containing Rupies, card packs, and customization items.

Experience the story mode for lore and loot

It may seem a bit strange to play a card game for the story, but Shadowverse: World Beyond has a really interesting world with some great characters, which is to be expected from the studio that created Granblue Fantasy and Umamusume: Pretty Derby

There's not a lot of gameplay in the Shadowverse story mode, so it's best to be in the mood for a visual novel. You'll unlock more chapters of the story as you play more of Shadowverse's other modes too, so check back often to see if any new events are available.

You'll also get some free rewards for watching story chapters, and they add up really fast. If you're ever short for an item in the shop, story mode rewards can give you the top up you need to save some real-world cash.
