Strange Horticulture is a plant-based puzzle game infused with magic, and it’s free this week on the Epic Games Store for mobile.
You play as the Horticulturist, the proprietor of a plant shop called Strange Horticulture. You’ve inherited the shop, and you spend your days selling botanical cures for what ails your customers. Things seem innocuous enough in the mysterious town of Undermere. But when news spreads about the death of the local witch coven’s leader, things get strange, and you’re drawn into a centuries-old occult mystery.
Strange Horticulture’s puzzle gameplay centers around exploration and context clues. Imagine that you meet a customer with certain needs. You head into the surrounding wilds to find the botanical cure, identifying mysterious flora and using your encyclopedia of plants. As you explore and evade danger, you also discover and update your records, learning as you go and using that knowledge to extract strange effects.
But here’s the thing: Your duty and services aren’t always straightforward. The choices you make about what to create and provide will determine how, exactly, you help (or hinder) your customers—and yourself.
You know that the population in and around the odd town of Undermere is often at odds, and customer service might mean something different to you than it does to your patrons. As your prowess and knowledge increase, you learn to make even more potent concoctions, and the choices you make along the way have significant effects not just on the narrative, but on Strange Horticulture’s characters.
