When I met the team from Stonebot, and they told us at Skystone Games that they were making a game all about rescuing captured dogs, and then training them to fight back against their oppressors in the form of a tower defense game mixed with a brawler – I was sold. Because that’s The Last Friend in a nutshell. And who doesn’t want to save dogs, and kick the butts of the bad guys who were holding them hostage?

This is the first game we’re launching at Skystone Games, and I can’t think of a better opener. It perfectly blends two beloved genres – the tower defense and the brawler – to miraculous effect. There’s something about deploying an army of dog-piloted turrets and punching and kicking the heck out of Mad-Maxian maniacs that just works on so many levels.
The Last FriendYou get to play as Alpha, a bearded man of few words, and his trusty best friend the wise-cracking chihuahua T.Juan. Throughout the multitude of levels spread across five epic regions, you’ll rescue dozens of captured pooches being held for nefarious purposes. Roving about the wasteland in your high-tech and upgradeable RV, you’ll meet a cast of helpful allies such as Lupe – a grand matron-esque woman who will take found dog treats and turn them into special meals that will upgrade your doggos’ special abilities.

And that’s just it too! Every single doggo you rescue throughout The Last Friend has its own special ability or skill that you can employ in the battle to save the world. As you progress, you’ll upgrade your RV, your doggos’ skills, and even Alpha’s own combat prowess. Whether it’s a pooch that gives you the ability to heal up and repair turrets, or a canine that shoots water to douse the flames of angry pyromaniacs – there’s a dog for every occasion.

The Last Friend is out today on PC and Nintendo Switch, but there’s something very special I almost forgot to mention. For a limited time, via our website you can purchase one of just four hundred “True Frens” packs which gets you a host of limited-edition content, but also something I don’t think any other game has ever offered – we’ll take a picture of your best doggo friend from real life, and immortalize them in our game with a hand-drawn cartoon version added to the in-game Dogpedia!

We hope you enjoy playing The Last Friend as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it to life. You can follow us @Skystone_Games or @thestonebot, and join our Discord! We’ve got big plans for the game beyond launch, and we hope you come along for the ride in Alpha’s RV! Just… mind the dog doo. There’s bound to be a lot with this many puppers.
