Choose a weapon that suits your playstyle

One of the most important WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers tips to remember is that you can utilize five different weapon types, namely axes, dual blades, one-handed swords, longswords, and spears.

Each kind of weapon offers advantages, including innate Skyborn Might skills. Certain actions, such as perfectly dodging an enemy’s attack, grant a resource that lets you unleash these powerful abilities.

You can equip two weapons at any given time. This mechanic allows you to adapt to combat situations on the fly, especially when dealing with multiple foes or faster opponents.

 

Check out the functions of Shrines

Several locations in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers have Shrines that offer nifty functions:

• Enter Dream: Rest and replenish your Manna Vase charges. This action causes regular enemies to respawn.
• Teleport: Fast travel to other Shrines that you’ve discovered.
• Impetus Repository: Allocate and reset skill points.
• Temper, Benediction, and Discipline: These pertain to upgrades and special effects for your weapons. (More below.)
• Invoke: Increase your Madness build-up.
• Warehouse: Place items from your storage into your inventory.

As a side note, stay on your guard when approaching a Shrine because a select few are actually monsters in disguise. You must defeat them to unlock that Shrine’s functions.

 

Fine-tune your build by allocating and resetting skill points

You can check skill trees in the Impetus Repository menu. This is where you use a general resource known as Red Mercury to unlock new nodes. Here’s a quick summary:

• The top, right, and bottom sides of the screen have perks for your weapons.
• The left-hand side of the screen has boons for other mechanics, such as your Manna Vase, Feathering power-ups, magic usage, Tempering, and more.
• Various smaller nodes can be found on the board as well. These increase your stats, such as health, stamina, strength, and agility.
• You can freely reset your skill points and spent resources. This allows you to adjust your build at will.

Pick Discipline, Benediction, and Temper upgrades for your weapons

Three other features allow you to buff your weapons significantly:

• Discipline: Unlock weapon skills via the Impetus Repository menu and equip them to your weapon.
• Temper: You must unlock Temper “Acupoint” nodes via the Impetus Repository menu. Likewise, you'll find Bone Needles and Stone Needles that grant unique effects.
• Benediction: Tiny stones that you find or purchase can be socketed into your weapons. These grant bonuses to your damage, defense, affliction build-up, elemental boost, and more.

Be on the lookout for Manna Vase upgrades

Another key WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers tip to keep in mind is that the golden treasure chests that you find may contain upgrades for your Manna Vase, i.e. your health flask/potion.

• Forgotten Remembrance: Adds an extra charge/use.
• Lost Remains: Increases the amount of health recovered.

Note that you still need to spend Red Mercury to unlock connected nodes in the skill tree.

 

Break an enemy’s poise and unleash devastating blows

Most enemies in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers have a poise meter, which is denoted by a circular glyph that appears whenever you hit them. Certain actions—such as charged attacks, plunging attacks, backstabs, and Skyborn Might abilities—may break a target’s poise faster.

Once an opponent has been temporarily stunned, you can hit them from the front to perform an Obliterate strike, a devastating blow that deals tremendous damage.

 

Cast spells to turn the tide of battle

You’ll unlock powerful spells over the course of your adventure. You can equip up to four of these at any given time, though casting them still requires the Skyborn Might resource. As such, you have to be mindful of when you should use a weapon skill and when you should conjure a spell instead.

 

Manage your Madness and beware of your Inner Demon

Generally speaking, there are two types of enemies in the game—humans and feathered—and they tend to affect the build-up of the Madness mechanic. Defeating humanoid enemies and dying increases Madness, while defeating feathered enemies reduces it. Certain items or structures may increase or decrease Madness, too. Some perks in the Impetus Repository grant bonus effects if you’re at higher Madness levels. You even acquire more Red Mercury, while also dealing and taking more damage in return.

Unfortunately, perishing at certain Madness level thresholds causes an Inner Demon to appear near the area where your character fell in battle. You must defeat your Inner Demon to recover the Red Mercury that you’ve dropped. If you’re beaten, then your Red Mercury will be lost for good.

 

Tackle NPC quests and unlock companions

You’ll meet several characters as you trek across WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers' vast landscapes, and many of them offer worthwhile benefits:

• You can give valuables to vendors to unlock additional wares.
• Some quest items can be given to NPCs in exchange for rewards.
• You can undertake quests for certain warriors. Completing these quests then lets you summon them via the Bone Whistle when fighting key enemies.
• The Shrine’s teleport function lets you know of any NPCs with new dialogue options.

Goldwings point you in the right direction and grant buffs

Magical birds known as Goldwings can be found all over the countryside. They tend to act as markers of sorts, letting you know that there’s something interesting in the next area. Attacking these birds nets you Aurum Feathers, which randomly increase your maximum health, maximum stamina, or damage once used.

 

Run after those silly Bamboo Shoots

Every now and then, you might come across little critters that look like Bamboo Shoots with legs. These sprites are ridiculously fast, but you can take them out in a single blow. Bamboo Shoots can then be given to the Giant Panda NPC near the Shu Sanctum in exchange for unique rewards.

Note that Bamboo Shoots will burrow underground if you’re unable to chase and kill them quickly. Resting at a Shrine will make them respawn.

 

Search for shortcuts and alternate paths

Several areas in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers have labyrinthine paths that seem discombobulating at first glance. That said, it’s possible to find shortcuts if you keep your eyes peeled. These include gates and doorways that can be opened, tree trunks that you can push, and ladders that you can interact with.

 

Bring consumables that alleviate status ailments

Humanoid and feathered enemies aren’t the only dangers you have to deal with. Wuchang can get afflicted with all sorts of status ailments:

• Paralysis: Caused by lightning damage, and reduces your damage output.
• Burn: Caused by fire damage, and increases damage taken and continuously suffered from fire damage.
• Blight: Caused by poison or acid damage, and depletes part of your maximum health.
• Corruption: Caused by shadow damage and blood pools, and continuously deals damage for the duration.
• Frostbite: Caused by ice or water damage and cold temperatures, and halves your maximum stamina for the duration.
• Poise Break: Staggers and deals an instance of damage.
• Despair: Caused by eerie glowing crystals and lantern-wielding foes, and causes instant death upon build-up.

Depending on the battle or environment, you might want to equip different armor pieces to increase your resistance against these ailments. Some consumables also help alleviate these debuffs.

 

Use emotes when interacting with points-of-interest

In some cases, you might stumble upon landmarks with strange inscriptions that tell you about some action that you need to do. If you reach these areas, you might want to equip and use specific emotes. Picking the right emote nets you rewards, and you might even hear a voice-over related to Wuchang’s past.

 

Be ready to face challenging bosses

It goes without saying that the road ahead will be long and arduous, filled with numerous pitched battles against terrifying bosses. If you can’t defeat these opponents in a couple of tries, then consider leveling up further by amassing more Red Mercury. You could also try different Skyborn Might and Discipline skills through your weapons, or equip armor pieces that improve your resistances. Be patient and you should bring down these foes soon enough.
