Train Sim World® 6: Great Western Express Remastered
THE GREAT WESTERN EXPRESS REMASTER IS HERE!
Return to the rails of Great Western Railway and revisit Train Sim World’s first ever UK route with the completely overhauled free update to Great Western Express! Re-experience the route like you’ve never seen it before, with new and improved scenery, modern TSW features, train upgrades and more, brought to you by Grump Dog Games.
The Route
Heading out of London and running due west at speed, the Great Western Main Line is the key corridor between the Capital, the Thames Valley and out into the far reaches of the West Country & Wales. Engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the Great Western Railway laid the foundations for what would become one of Britain’s busiest railways.
In Train Sim World; Great Western Express recreates the commuter-dominated stretch of the GWML between London Paddington and Reading during the transformative mid-2010s era, with half-erected OHLE gantries and Crossrail construction sites abound. With diesel traction still at the helm, hurry commuters aboard the ubiquitous Class 166 Networker Turbos, or speed along in the iconic HST.
The Remaster
And now, the long-awaited Remaster project from Grump Dog Games has taken the oldest UK route in TSW and given it the ultimate facelift! As part of this free update, the route itself has been overhauled from buffer to buffer, including rebuilt scenery for Southall depot, Ealing Broadway, Paddington mail platform, updates to use the latest volumetric skies, as well as track shadows, ground materials, foliage and more. An overhauled soundscape revitalises the atmosphere, including the addition of audible passenger announcements.
Updates to the 166 and HST add in improved wheel motion blur, audible on-board announcements, sound improvements, material and texture improvements, and of course, the addition of plain blue liveries for added variety! The HST also gets guard mode functionality, and has exterior effects for the Mk3’s classic flushing toilets and new interactive elements like placeable tail lamps, meanwhile the 166 is now also driveable in 2-car formations, as well as the original 3-car. The Class 66 and wagons have been updated to their latest standards, as per appearances in more recent TSW routes.
The Timetable
Get the most out of the remaster with an all-new 2017 era timetable that features the full GWR working timetable - which represents a substantial upgrade over the original - plus a wider suite of freight services and tons of unique moves and AI unlocked by a range of content which has released since GWE itself. Experience the busy approach into Paddington like never before!
Layers ‘n’ Liveries! Additional stock, available separately in their own add-ons, layer into the route but with a twist, with some featuring appropriate liveries to fully flesh out the experience;
Heathrow services with the Class 350 (WCML London - Milton Keynes)
Circle and Hammersmith & City Line services, plus District Line AI with the Class 484 (Island Line 2022)
