A Total War Saga: TROY
AI General vs Spectator Mode
IMPORTANT: You cannot use both this mod and AI General at the same time. Please choose one or the other.
AI General and Spectator Mode both use the same underlying AI script planner. AI General is more versatile in how it assigns units to the AI and in what options you have. AI General can do everything that Spectator Mode can do and more. However, some people prefer Spectator Mode's simplicity or are familiar with it as a mod from previous titles.
I've updated both mods for Troy, so you can choose which works best for you.
Limitations / Known Issues
Please Note!
Spectator Mode was designed for single-player battles. I have not tested it in multi-player environments.
Is this AI very smart?
No. This AI is not very smart, but it does allow for more relaxing battles where you don't need to do everything yourself. At best, do not expect this to perform better than the game's AI on normal difficulty unless you help it.
Even though Spectator Mode and AI General use the game's Script AI Planner, there might be situation where the AI in this mod performs worse than the game's enemy AI would in a similar situation.
I recommend saving games before your battles if you care strongly about the outcome.
How to use
This mod's script only runs battles, so it shouldn't affect the campaign map at all.
During battle, this mod piggybacks on the game's hotkeys for "Save Camera Bookmark 1" through 6. You can set these to whatever hotkeys you'd like. By default these start out as Shift+F9 through Shift+F12. See the next section for details.
The Hotkeys for Spectator Mode
Save Camera Bookmark 1 (Shift+F9) - Cycle between modes.
...2 (Shift+F10) - Spectator Mode: The AI controls all your units.
...3 (Shift+F11) - Hero Mode: The AI controls everything except the original commander.
...4 (Shift+F12) - Reinforcement Mode: The AI controls everything except the starting army.
...5 (no default) - Off. You control everything.
...6 (no default) - Turn Unit Responses On/Off. In Warhammer 2, Hambango added this in case users got stuck in an audio loop or found the units responding to AI commands to be annoying.
Compatibility with other mods
You cannot use both this mod and Spectator Mode. Please choose one or the other.
This should be compatible with almost all other mods (unless they have a battle script using unit_controllers, which most do not). Let me know through Discord or Facebook if you find compatibility issues with any mods. I will list them here and try to work with the mod's author to fix them.
Compatibility with saved games
Even if you are in the middle of a campaign, you can still start using Spectator Mode or AI General. (This also applies to my Find Idle Units mod). These mods affect real-time battles. They don't rely on information in your saved game in order to function.
Acknowledgments
Spectator Mode: Troy is inspired by and influenced by Hambango's pioneering work on Spectator Mode II for TW Warhammer (originally posted to the Total War Forums). A huge thanks to him and to Decomposed for being the steward of Spectator Mode on Steam for several years before I even got involved. I updated and reworked sections of this using what I learned from updating Hambango's AI General II.
As with most mods, special thanks also to RPFM (a tool built by the modding community) and to CA for supporting the modding community.
