When can I play SHRAPNEL

In 2025, we will turn on matchmaking worldwide. Look for announcements via email and X. There will be preview events between now and then, and we’ll see you in The Zone.

What is the current state of the game?

SHRAPNEL is in early development and currently experimenting with a team-based extraction mode which is fast-paced and very tense. We are playtesting daily, tuning Sigma Ability use and abuse, refining the map layout, and of course adding art, on the road to launch.

How long is Early Access?

Shrapnel delivered more than 25 days of playable events in 2024, gated behind the purchase of Extraction Packs. On the road to launch in 2025, there will be more opportunities to play the game without the Extraction Pack requirement. So, keep a lookout for announcements, and we’ll see you in The Zone!

What game updates can we expect?

Prior to launch, we will release ecosystem features such as Schematics, Printer, and Recycle Depot. Post-launch we will be releasing content such as new skins, playable characters, Sigma abilities, game modes, and more.

Will my progress be saved during updates?

All tokenized items that the player earns, buys or wins, the player will always own. In addition, we will target keeping as much player progress as possible, but in some cases and as features evolve, it is possible that previous progression will not be compatible.

Can I provide feedback and input?

We love contributions from our community. For example, feedback from the STX events helped us prioritize controller support and we put it in; community members voted on the design of the SCU in-game prop. Our Early Access events had player surveys after each match, and we hope to continue with that. We always listen to input from players. So tell us what you think, via X or Discord or surveys.

How is blockchain, NFT, or cryptocurrency used in SHRAPNEL?

Our blockchain technology enables players to truly own their in-game items, from skins to Callsigns and more. You can buy and sell items and discover and engage peer-to-peer in the Shrapnel Marketplace. The utility of creating, customizing, minting and more will be added when the Creator Tools are released. SHRAP is a custom utility token and a Layer-1 blockchain built on Avalanche.

What utility does this bring to SHRAPNEL?

Peer-to-peer transactions and player-created content are key aspects to the SHRAPNEL experience. Creator Tools are coming soon, built using the same engine technology we use for the game, and will allow anybody to quickly get started creating their own SHRAPNEL content. Players can then publish that content, trade it in the SHRAPNEL Marketplace, and earn rewards based on its popularity. We expect that by enabling true ownership, more creators will create more content, making SHRAPNEL a more rich and diverse experience.

Does SHRAPNEL require me to connect an external wallet? What wallets does it support?

No SHRAPNEL does not require players to create or connect with any external wallets. Players create accounts using known and trusted methods such as email address, or social media account authorization. However, players are able to optionally link self-custody wallets to their SHRAPNEL account.

What chain does SHRAPNEL use? Is the chain proof-of-work or proof-of-stake?

SHRAPNEL is built on an Avalanche subnet (aka a Layer 1), which is a proof-of-stake chain. Proof-of-stake chains use dramatically less energy than proof-of-work.

Can I play SHRAPNEL without interacting or engaging with blockchain, NFT, or cryptocurrency?

Yes, players can play the full Shrapnel game without interacting or engaging with blockchain, NFT, or cryptocurrency.

Does SHRAPNEL have a marketplace? What can I do with the things that I earn or purchase?

Yes, SHRAPNEL has a Marketplace where players can buy and sell in-game content including skins, Callsigns, Fragments, Schematics and more. More item types will be added soon, including ownable Operator characters, player-created (UGC) cosmetic items and more. To find the Marketplace simply create your SHRAPNEL player account at www.shrapnel.com.

Do I have to understand blockchain?

No. While SHRAPNEL’s underlying technology enables player ownership and peer-to-peer transactions by using blockchain, you do not need to know about the technology to enjoy the game.

Can I play and win in SHRAPNEL without making any in-app purchases?

Yes. When SHRAPNEL launches, it will be free to play.

Are there in-app purchases within gameplay?

Shrapnel game items available to purchase via the Shrapnel marketplace will include premium weapon skins, user-created Callsigns, Fragments, Schematics and more. Soon after launch, the Shrapnel marketplace will add new asset types, like user-created weapon skins, new playable Operator characters, Charms, and more. The marketplace will be accessed via Shrapnel.com, not within the game.

Are in-app purchases refundable?

Yes, if certain criteria are met and have proof.
