一連推出七項全新任務，講述著 Gehenna 星球上的奮戰歷險——這是個熔岩遍布的險惡煉獄，不但四處都有火山噴發，還有成群結隊肆虐各地的蟲族怪物 Arachind。

在這顆星球的大氣層外繞行著一座名為 Vilon Station 的巨大太空站，為該區域的人類生活重心所在。無數貨船一艘接著一艘，將 Gehenna 星球表面的工業設施所提煉出來的燃料源源不絕提供給太空站。

Vilon Station 位處地球、Kwalasha 星球和其他聯邦 (Federation) 殖民地之間互惠互利、貿易往來的必經之地，為商業活動、船艦加油與補給物資的重要樞紐。

由堅毅勇武的退役軍人和冒險者組成的傭兵團體，至今仍受僱保護著 Gehenna 星球上的全體人員安危。然而，隨著 Bug War 的戰線不斷擴大，Arachnid 對人類的敵意也急遽上升。有鑑於當地環境異常危險，Vilon Station 的站長特地敦請 Sky Marshal 派遣機動步兵團 (Mobile Infantry) 前往 Gehenna。

其他工具和槍械

新的傭兵和 Vilon Station 戰鬥單位：

  • Engineering Biped
    儘管其初始設計與戰鬥無關，但這款步行機械載具的結構堅實穩固，確實能夠在必須臨機應變的前線作戰中有效抵禦 Arachnid 的攻擊。這款載具手臂上的鑽頭可以擊穿任何膽敢進犯的蟲子，並可巧妙運用載具本身的燃料系統，以煙霧和火光掩蔽自身蹤影。

  • Frag Mercs
    這群傭兵所專精的武器可擊發威力強大的破片彈，支援短程狙擊火網，也可發射中程距離的觸擊榴彈，提供間接火力支援。經驗豐富的「Frag Mercs」通常也精通各種地雷部署的相關技能。

  • Shredder Mercs
    「Shredder」可攜式機砲由人數最多且戰力最強的傭兵部隊配備，可有效剷除大批蟲族，甚至能轟碎大型 Arachnid 的裝甲外殼。這款重兵器也可架在三腳架上，提高準度和射速。

新的機動步兵團作戰單位：

  • Powered Suit Incinerators
    為尋求更強大的火力，這些還在實驗階段的 Powered Suit Trooper 小隊配備了威力十足的火焰噴射器。每當你需要將一大群蟲族消滅殆盡時，他們可助你一臂之力！

  • Powered Suit Officer
    這些軍官穿著與菁英動力裝甲士兵同款的先進外骨骼裝甲。這款裝甲讓他們擁有卓越的行動和防禦能力，可直接深入火網執行任務，並在劇烈交戰之際呼叫增援。

經過進化的 Arachnid

Gehenna 星球上的 Arachnid 已經演化出好幾個截然不同的亞種生物，而且都十分適應這個煉獄般的生存環境。Federal Intelligence 已經彙整了這些新型蟲族危害的相關情報，並公開發表調查報告：

  • Stinger
    體型小且十分脆弱的蟲類，可發射高熱投射物。個別蟲隻看起來並不可怕，但牠們通常會成群結隊現身，尤其是在高聳的蟲巢附近。

  • Immolator
    這些凶神惡煞會噴射出易燃物質，所有碰觸到的物品都會起火燃燒。據戰場報告顯示，該類蟲族在遭受到致命傷後會全身冒火，因此會先向前猛衝再炸成一團大火球。

  • Pyrofly
    一種飛蟲，可在特定區域持續盤旋並噴灑可燃物質。這種飛蟲的外骨骼十分厚實，因此一般的步槍火力難以置之死地。

  • Bomberbee
    小型飛蟲，可深入敵營並發動自爆攻擊。其猛烈的爆炸威力足以讓人體四分五裂，也可炸穿裝甲鋼板。

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is most certainly the game of the film. It gives off the same feel like the film and sticks very close to the source material with the use of bugs, the actions of the empire and the tactics of the Mobile Infantry; all that is an unequivocal positive. However, there are a few issues in gameplay. It feels like an older strategy game than it is, lacking some modern sensibilities, limited game modes, and featuring poor pathfinding. Still, despite these issues, it is a genuinely fun and strategic title that fans of the franchise will thoroughly enjoy, and general strategy fans should also enjoy.

Perfectly encapsulating the Paul Verhoven film, Starship Troopers: Terran Command strikes the right balance of cheesy and challenging, at least in the latter missions. While it doesn't have multiplayer or a scenario editor, the single player is a blast. We'll fight, and we'll win, I just wish my troopers weren't so dumb while we do it. Oh well, more meat for the grinder.
