The world of Blades of Fire is fraught with countless dangers, from heavily armored soldiers and primordial elementals to the vile undead scourge. As warrior Aran de Lira, you must wield powerful armaments to bring down terrifying foes. That said, you should also be mindful of how these items are crafted in the first place.

Our Blades of Fire best weapons guide discusses various mechanics and features, including how the crafting/forging system works. We also take a look at the seven weapon types and the ideal gear pieces that you can unlock via Forge Scroll tallies. Likewise, if you’re eager to learn about other facets of the game, you can take a look at our beginner’s guide.

How does the weapon crafting system work in Blades of Fire

The hammer that Aran holds grants him unimaginable power, as it allows him to create all sorts of armaments in the Forge of the Gods. Here’s how the Blades of Fire weapon crafting system works:

  • There are seven weapon types: Daggers, Twins, Sabers, Swords, Greatswords, Polearms, and Spears. Each category has several weapon variants as well, such as the Hyssop, War Pick, Warhammer, and more for the Polearm category.
  • The vast majority of weapons are unlocked through Forge Scrolls. You need to defeat a certain number of enemies to unlock that kind of armament.
  • Weapons can deal slashing, piercing, or blunt damage. Some even allow you to change stances.
  • Gear pieces are crafted in the Forge of the Gods, and each kind of weapon has various parts. These include blades, heads, shafts, cross-sections, pommels, and more.
  • You can choose different kinds of metallic and wooden resources when crafting items. These also affect the gear piece’s stats.
  • You can also hammer the billet to earn repair stars. You should follow the white outline that denotes the weapon’s shape. Likewise, you may heat the weapon to gain a boost to that repair star’s progress.
  • Each star you earn for a type of weapon counts as a free repair so you can restore its durability.
  • We also recommend interacting with Seneschal Statues while certain weapons are equipped. These statues grant new upgrades and options for that particular gear piece.

Daggers: Double Kukris

  • Required enemies: 30x Athanatoi Marauders
  • Damage type: Slashing and piercing

The Double Kukris are likely to be the first kind of Daggers you’ll acquire in Blades of Fire. What makes this type of armament amazing is its blindingly fast attack speed. It’s fairly simple to chain your attacks, too, so you can create a longer combo string as you whittle down a target’s health. Moreover, the jagged line hammering pattern makes it relatively easy to forge.

Perhaps the only downside is that the Double Kukris—and most bladed weapons—can only deal slashing and piercing damage. This characteristic makes them ineffective against heavily armored or brutish foes, such as the members of the Queen’s Army.

Twins: Twin Axes or Twin Mallets

  • Required enemies: 60x Putrids (Twin Axes) or 10x Forger Sentinels (Twin Mallets)
  • Damage type: Slashing (Twin Axes) or Blunt (Twin Mallets)

You’ll gain access to the Twin Axes after slaying 60 Twin Axe-wielding Putrids, which are slow-moving skeletons found in several regions. Then, once you’re able to craft this item, you can make use of its lunging charged attacks to close the distance between you and your opponent. It’s definitely great for a more aggressive playstyle.

Later, though, you can wield the Twin Mallets once you’ve defeated 10 Forger Sentinels. Unfortunately, these primordial creatures are found in another section of Kar-Lethel Swamp, which is only accessible upon progressing further into the campaign. The good news is that you’ll finally have a dual-wielded item that can deal blunt damage.

Sabers: Kalis

  • Requirement: Campaign progression
  • Damage types: Slashing and piercing

The Kalis isn’t acquired via enemy kill tallies, unlike most other Blades of Fire weapons. Instead, you have to progress further into the campaign until you’re told to collect amulets in the Doyen Graves. From there, you’ll eventually gain access to the western portion of Kar-Lethel Swamp, where you’ll destroy a giant tree that grants the Forge Scroll.

Another facet that makes the Kalis unique is that the parts you select have a purple glyph icon. If you choose all of these, the Kalis that you make turns into the Argenvadil, a unique Saber that’s required to complete your main objective.Blades Of Fire Best Weapons To Craft 4

Swords: Eastern Sword

  • Required enemies: 10x Templars of the Sacred Steel
  • Damage types: Slashing and piercing

The Eastern Sword is one of the best weapons in Blades of Fire, and with good reason, since it requires you to defeat 10 Templars of the Sacred Steel. These foes are more akin to elites rather than regular enemy mobs, as they initially appear as petrified statues. In fact, some might require you to find and follow magical birds known as Iridescent Crows, which cause the forgotten knights to come to life.

If you manage to eliminate enough of these opponents, you’ll be able to make use of the Eastern Sword’s attacks that are equally graceful and deadly. Ideally, you’ll want materials that further boost your parry and stamina, so you can truly show off your skill when battling hordes.

Greatswords: Claymore or Flamberge

  • Required enemies: 60x Putrids (Claymore) or 30x Vexers (Flamberge)
  • Damage types: Slashing and piercing (both weapons)

The Claymore is likely to become your top choice among Greatswords for dozens of hours. Numerous Putrids can be found in Kar-Lethel Swamp, making the unlock process a lot smoother. The weapon itself has great charged attacks that cleave a swathe through the battlefield.

Later, though, we recommend switching to the Flamberge. That means defeating enough Vexers, the annoying creatures that keep hopping around. Compared to the Claymore’s strikes, the Flamberge’s charged attacks cause Aran to spin around, dealing damage to multiple foes around him at a wider arc.

Polearms: Hyssop or Warhammer

  • Required enemies: Available by default (Hyssop) or 10x Mayhem Warmongers (Warhammer)
  • Damage types: Blunt (Hyssop); piercing and blunt (Warhammer)

The Hyssop is easily one of the best weapons in Blades of Fire since it’s one of the few that can reliably deal heavy blunt damage with its blows. This makes it the perfect choice when engaging heavily armored hostiles that are nigh-impervious to your swords or daggers. It’s also unlocked at the start of the campaign, so you’re bound to craft several variants throughout your adventure.

Much later, though, we advise you to forge the Warhammer, which requires you to eliminate 10 Mayhem Warmongers. They are the elite soldiers of Queen Nerea, though they have relatively predictable attack patterns. The Warhammer lets you switch between piercing and blunt styles/stances, which is great against opponents with specific weaknesses.

Spears: Long Spear

  • Required enemies: 10x Queen’s Hounds
  • Damage types: Slashing and piercing

You’re going to unlock the Long Spear very early in the game since there are several spear-wielding Queen’s Hounds–i.e. regular soldiers–guarding Besacarr Hamlet. Once you have this weapon, you can marvel at its excellent reach, as you stab and skewer your targets before you.

Take note that the next type of Spear that you unlock, the Glaive, won’t be available until much later. It requires you to defeat five Sentenza elites, which are found in the Doyen Graves zone.

That does it for our Blades of Fire best weapons guide. We hope these tips aid you as you craft the ideal armaments not just for your preferred playstyle, but also the kinds of enemies that you encounter.
Those who would like to forge all sorts of mighty weapons to slay deranged creatures and terrifying denizens should pick up Blades of Fire, which is available now on the Epic Games Store.
