After Arc System Works adapted one of the world's most popular anime into a fighting game with Dragon Ball FighterZ, some wondered what else ASW could adapt that would match the star power of Goku, Vegeta, and co. The answer, it turns out, is Marvel Comics, as Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls (在新分頁開啟) has given the team at Arc a whole new universe to play with. It's out now on Epic Games Store.

Tokon's fast-paced action is highlighted by four-on-four team-based fighting, with nearly two dozen characters to choose from. Here, we'll run down every playable character in the game, and highlight each one's main strategy so you can decide which fearsome foursome is right for you.

The Marvel Tokon Roster Guide
Fighting Avengers

Captain America (leader): Key Move: Trick Shield (R1)

The all-American hero is made for beginner players, as his mixture of powerful strikes, anti-air uppercuts, and projectiles make him a well-rounded choice. Trick Shield offers a bit of versatility, as the strange trajectory of the shield's movement, as well as the ability to deflect it back at the opponent when it returns, create a tough guessing game for the opponent to figure out.

Iron Man: Key Move: Smart Missiles (Down + R2)

Beams, missiles, free flight, and dash attacks, Iron Man has it all, and players who like to mix projectiles into their fighting style will feel right at home here.. While his Repulsor Shot (R1) can be hit multiple times for multiple shots, Smart Missiles allow him to follow behind and close the gap when the time is right.

Hulk: Key Move: Gamma Spark (R1))

Hulk is a big and bruising character, with punches, kicks, and charges that deal massive damage to any opponent who gets too close. Hulk can power up his moves even further with Gamma Spark, which raises his unique Gamma Level every time it's used. Once Hulk hits Gamma Level 3, your opponent won't know what hit them.

Black Panther: Key Move: Divine Rite (Back and B)

Like the animal she's named for, Black Panther is an agile character with fast movements and the ability to hit multi-hit combos out of thin air. Unlike other rushdown characters, however, Panther has a built-in defensive move with Divine Rite, which creates a shield in her armor that protects against the next attack, which can give you the opening you need to win.

Unbreakable X-Men

Storm (leader): Key Move: Tempest (R1)

Storm's weather-based power allows her to shoot lightning and ice from her hands, but she can also use the power of the wind to manipulate the battlefield itself. Tempest, for example, lets push and pull both fighters on-screen in a certain direction, so if an opponent is playing keepaway, one well-timed Tempest will put a stop to that, and Storm can take control.

Magik: Key Move: Dark Portal (Any direction + R1)

Magik's massive sword gives her an incredible amount of range with basic attacks, but sometimes an opponent can remain just out of the blade's reach. That's where Dark Portal comes in, as she can open portals to teleport around the arena and surprise an opponent by appearing right in front of them.

Danger: Key Move: Calibrate (Any direction + R1)

The mech warrior Danger has access to a few quick projectiles and moves like Drill Piercer (forward + R2) that can close gaps quickly, but Calibrate is where she truly shines. By throwing three floating nodes onto the battlefield, her other moves are enhanced whenever they come into contact with one of the nodes, and that enhancement can be a difference maker if the opponent isn't ready.

Wolverine: Key Move: Berserker Claw (R1)

Wolverine's quick movement and combo potential make him a force to be reckoned with. His Berserker Claw move is the most versatile in his moveset, as it has multiple follow-ups that your opponent will have to defend against, and if they choose the wrong one, they're in for a world of hurt, bub.

Amazing Guardians

Spider-Man (leader): Key Move: Web Zip (R1)

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man mixes his trademark web shots with fast movement to overwhelm opponents into opening themselves up, and once he's in, it's hard to get him out. Web Zip is a great example of his abilities, as he can move around the screen at will, mixing in attacks and even a throw when the time is right.

Star-Lord: Key Move: Groove Switch (Any direction + R1)

Star-Lord's projectile-heavy arsenal leans on elemental moves; ice attacks can freeze the opponents in place, fire attacks can hit multiple times, etc. Groove Switch allows Star-Lord to switch between the four elements--lightning, fire, earth, and ice--at will, which forces your opponent to stay on their toes.

Ms. Marvel: Key Move: Elasti-Grab (R1)

Ms. Marvel's ability to stretch her body means enemies aren't safe anywhere on the screen, and you can use that to your advantage to mix up your opponent and score big damage. Elasti-Grab is key to that strategy, as she can pull herself in whatever direction she extends her hand, including if the hand makes contact with the opponent, after which you can quickly follow up with a combo.

Peni Parker: Key Move: Gadget Launcher (R1)

Peni Parker doesn't come into her Tokon battles alone, as she rides a giant mech named SP//DR that comes equipped with multiple bots and drones that aid in battle. Gadget Launcher springs one of those mechanical mates into action, and while the helper that emerges is random, each of them packs a punch that Peni can capitalize on.

Knights of Doom

Doctor Doom (leader): Key Move: Nullify Shield (R1)

Doctor Doom is a zoning player's dream, as his powerful beams and other projectiles work wonders in keeping enemies away. Nullify Shield might be the best of the bunch, as it produces a slow-moving shield that deflects enemy attacks, damages them on contact, and allow Doom to move closer and strike.

Green Goblin: Key Move: Glider Summon (Back + R1)

Green Goblin is one of the more unique characters on the Tokon roster, in that he thrives while zipping around the ring on his glider. Glider Summon brings the tool into battle, and once Green Goblin is aboard, he can perform unique attacks like Flyby Kick (R1) or Glider Dash (any direction + B) that take advantage of the extra mobility.

Magneto: Key Move: Magnetic Blast (R2)

Magneto's core strategy is to fill the stage with clouds of metal debris, which can alter how some of his most powerful moves work, while also magnetizing his opponents and changing their basic movements. Magnetic Blast is a chargeable projectile that adds a cloud of debris to the arena, and the more clouds on the field, the faster this projectile charges.

Carnage: Key Move: Parasite Fang (R1)

Carnage was designed for the players who simply wish to attack as much as possible, as he thrives being up close and personal throughout the match. Parasite Fang is not only a quick and powerful attack, it can inflict the temporary Necrosis status effect on the opponent, which makes Carnage's B attacks deal more damage even when blocked.

Samurai Outriders

Ghost Rider (leader): Key Move: Vengeance Gauge (passive)

Ghost Rider works best in the middle of the screen, as he mixes his deadly chains with powerful command grabs to dominate the mid-game. However, keep an eye on the Vengeance Gauge as you fight; if it overheats, Ghost Rider will be left defenseless for a brief period. Moves like Revelator Chain (R1) and Hell Throttle (down + R1) can deplete the Vengeance Gauge when needed.

Blade: Key Move: Heart Stopper (R1)

The vampire samurai offers tools for both long-range and up-close fighting, though the latter is his specialty. The Heart Stopper projectile inflicts a "Marked for Death" status effect on the opponent that affects how they'll react to Blade's other attacks the next time they connect; for example, Vampire Cleave (back + R2) will deal more damage if the opponent is afflicted with Marked for Death.

Loki: Key Move: Misdirection (hold Y when performing certain attacks)

Loki's reputation as a trickster bleeds into his arsenal, as he uses a lot of traps and fakeouts to confuse opponents into making mistakes. Misdirection turns an offensive move into a counter by creating a fake version of Loki, so if your opponent thinks they've figured out your next move, you can get the jump on them instead.

Deadpool: Key Move: Rope-a-Dope (Y + R2)

Deadpool is fighting game history in a single character, with fourth-wall-breaking references in nearly every one of his attacks. Rope-a-Dope borrows Scorpion's Speak from Mortal Kombat, extending the length of the screen and pulling an enemy in close. Additional attack presses timed properly will create a damaging combo.

The Champion (Secret Character): Key Move: Cosmic Crush (Forward + R2)

The Champion is a massive and imposing character, which is fitting for a final boss. He's also a little different in that when you select him, you only play as him. However, he has much more health than the rest of the cast, and he can create images of himself to fill in during moves where a team of heroes would normally assist in battle.

A lunging attack with an overhead swing, Cosmic Crush also ties into The Champion's unique meter at the bottom of the screen. When that meter is filled, connecting with a Cosmic Crush will transform The Champion into this Awakened form, which strengthens all of his attacks and grants him super armor.
