Magic is evil—or so Demacia’s government claims. Sylas, a newly escaped convict, swears revenge on those who imprisoned him in the Mageseeker compound. To this end, he joins the revolution against Demacia, but will it all end in needless bloodshed? That’s for you to find out in Riot Games’ and Digital Sun’s League of Legends action RPG The Mageseeker.

The Mageseeker takes place after the events of the Lux comic. However, you don’t need to know anything about League of Legends to enjoy the story, it just takes place in the same world. The game dives into the origins of Sylas the Unshackled, a League of Legends character with the power to copy others’ abilities. He used to be part of the titular Mageseekers, a law enforcement group dedicated to eradicating magic within Demacia. 
His story goes as follows: The Mageseekers discovered Sylas as a child and took advantage of his ability to detect magic to hunt down other mages. However, that wasn’t enough of a saving grace to keep Sylas safe. The group jailed Sylas after his powers went haywire on one mission and accidentally caused the deaths of two Mageseekers. His hatred and resentment toward the Demacian government festered behind bars until he escapes 15 years later to join the revolutionaries that are set against the powers that be.

The Mageseeker isn’t just Sylas’ story, either. It fleshes out Demacia’s history through the others around him, including revolutionary group leader Leilani, along with his old friend and fellow League of Legends champion Lux. All the characters and their roles in the story serve as a way to expand the League of Legends world and show the other reasons a mage might join the revolution.
But this lore is just part of what makes The Mageseeker great. Digital Sun builds on the formula from its other League of Legends RPG, Moonlighter, to create a more action-packed story that gives you many options for how to fight. You might struggle to keep up with Sylas’ different abilities at first, but you soon learn to swap between them with a few presses of a button. 

The Mageseeker’s responsive and snappy controls make juggling abilities and building combos easy. Sylas’ attacks and abilities keep combat fresh, especially since The Mageseeker encourages you to swap between melee and magic by design. Even the different enemies help to keep you on your toes with their attack patterns and weaknesses.

The game serves many purposes, especially as an entryway into the League of Legends franchise. However, it’s also an action-packed RPG with a story about how a vengeful anti-hero becomes a revolutionary leader.
