Wholesome and Green Games showcases 2025: The biggest news for Epic Games Store players

Wholesome Direct’s organizers describe its contents as a “vibrant lineup of artistic, uplifting, and emotionally resonant games from developers of all sizes from around the world.” In its debut livestream, the Green Games Showcase will be “spotlighting the industry’s growing commitment to the environment and enabling at least 50,000 trees to be planted for habitat restoration.”

Wholesome Direct 2025
The Berlin Apartment
The Berlin Apartment from developer btf tells the century-long story of the titular apartment’s various inhabitants.
Players take on the role of a handyman refurbishing the old apartment. The deeper he digs, the more he discovers about those who have lived there. Your job is to explore, discover relics, and trace your way through the short stories of those who’ve lived there. During the Wholesome Direct 2025 livestream, we saw brief glimpses of the same room over the years.

Collector's Cove
Collector’s Cove is the story of a fisher-farmer and their animal companion who sail the seas to gather, fish, and farm on a fantastical ship.
Developer VoodooDuck’s farming game takes place on a magical vessel that sails across the ocean to discover secrets and islands. We saw the ponytailed protagonist fish, farm, and cultivate crops. As you play, you’ll be able to deepen your bond with your animal friend and customize it and your surroundings, all of which were on display in the trailer.

Discounty
In developer Crinkle Cut Games’ Discounty, players own and manage a discount supermarket (and also grow a secretive business empire).
The video shown during Wholesome Direct 2025 showed off the game’s pixel artstyle as players planned and organized their store’s layout, stocked their shelves, and interacted with the surprisingly testy community of Blomkest. Also, there's maybe dolphin-killing sewage?

Instants
Developer Endflame’s Instants is the story of a family told through scrapbooking.
The trailer showed off the cozy gameplay, where players take family photos and assemble them chronologically in scrapbook albums. Piece the puzzle together and you’ll gradually reveal the family’s history, from simple movie nights to holidays and major life events. Plus, you can surround the story you tell with decorations thanks to classic scrapbooking tools like stickers and tape.
Instants was released today in the Epic Games Store.
Out and About
Out and About is a cozy game about foraging and “the magic of real-life plants” from the developers at Yaldi Games.
The town of Portobello is in disarray after a storm, and it’s your job to learn about the surrounding area and rebuild. The trailer shown during the livestream was full of characters exploring, discovering, and harvesting some of the 100-plus plants and fungi to find in Out and About. We also saw players cooking and crafting while they explored the lush landscape at their own pace, making friends and helping their grandma.

Green Games Showcase
Imagine Earth
Developer Serious Bros.’ Imagine Earth is a strategy game where players build civilizations on alien worlds—or as host Will Freeman, described it, “a climate crisis simulator.”In Imagine Earth, you’re a space colony’s manager with planetwide responsibilities to explore, populate, build, and trade with other worlds. Imagine Earth has a green motif built in: You have to balance the expansion of industry with the pollution that infests the planet’s ecosystem. We saw it all during a trailer shown during the Green Games Showcase—clashes between industry and emissions, climate change-induced natural disasters, all with the goal of creating a sustainable civilization.

The Walking Dead: Season One
Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead series takes place in the same universe at Robert Kirkman’s comics and begins with the story of Lee Everett and a young orphaned girl named Clementine.
Host Will Freeman gave a shout out to The Walking Dead team, who made a contribution to the environmental cause behind the Green Games Showcase. As he explained at the beginning of the livestream, Planet Play is “a not-for-profit gaming platform that helps generate funds to help address the climate emergency. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised currently go to certified green projects.”
