Decentraland uses blockchain so that what you earn or buy (Wearables, Emotes, LAND, your identity) is genuinely yours. It's not locked to a company account. The infrastructure is decentralized, so no single company can take your space, your items, or what you've built.

What utility does this bring to the product?

It means your digital identity and anything you collect or create persists regardless of what any single company decides to do. Your avatar, your items, and your space are yours to keep, trade, or build on, not borrowed from a platform.

Does this product require me to connect an external wallet? What wallets does this product support?

No external wallet is required. When you sign up with your email or social account, a wallet is created and managed for you automatically. If you already have a crypto wallet, you can connect that instead. Decentraland supports Ethereum-compatible wallets including MetaMask, and others via WalletConnect.

Can I use the product without interacting or engaging with blockchain, NFT, or cryptocurrency?

Yes. You don't need crypto to get started. Sign up with your email, pay with a card if you want to buy anything, and Decentraland handles the rest in the background.

Decentraland runs on the Ethereum network, which is proof-of-stake.

Yes. You can buy, sell, and trade community-made Wearables, Emotes, NAMEs, and LAND in the Decentraland Marketplace (Opens in new tab). Everything you earn or buy is yours to keep, use in Decentraland, or resell on the secondary market.

Are there in-app purchases within the gameplay? How are payments processed?

Wearables, Emotes, NAMEs, and LAND can be bought and sold on the Decentraland Marketplace, a web-based shop. No purchases are made within the app itself. Marketplace transactions are processed on the Polygon network. Transaction gas fees are covered by the Decentraland DAO, so most purchases go through without any additional network costs. Credit card payments are also supported via third-party payment providers.

Are in-app purchases refundable?

No. Because items live on the blockchain, all sales are final, but you can use the secondary market to resell any items that you no longer want.
