Why Early Access?

The core loop of Project Freefall—tagging your friends while plummeting to the earth—is already a blast. But we believe the community is key to making this game truly special. Early Access allows us to build this experience with you. Your feedback on gameplay balance, new items, new obstacles, and performance will directly shape the future of the game. We want to create the ultimate skydiving party, and we need your help to do it right.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

We plan for Project Freefall to be in Early Access at least through 2026. This timeframe is a flexible target that allows us to gather crucial feedback, refine the core mechanics, and add more content. Our main goal is to launch the full version only when we and the community feel it's a complete and polished experience.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

The full version of Project Freefall is planned to be a more robust and polished experience. While the core gameplay is already in place, we aim to expand the game significantly with:

  • More Obstacles: A wider variety of interesting elements to dive through.

  • New Game Modes: Fresh ways to play beyond the core tag mode, introducing new rules and objectives.

  • Expanded Customization: A massive collection of items for you to express your style.

  • Progression and Rewards: Systems that reward you for playing and mastering the game.

  • Overall Polish: Continued improvements to performance, UI, and visual effects across all platforms.

  • More of Your Fun: There are going to be changes we don't know about yet because they're going to come from you, the player.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

The Early Access version is fully playable and features the core tag game mode, supporting up to eight (8) players with PC and VR cross-play. You can choose your Diver. While we've worked hard to make it stable and fun, it's still a game in development. You may encounter bugs, and the game will evolve based on player feedback. The current version is a solid foundation that we're excited to build upon with you.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

No. Project Freefall is free, and we plan for it to remain free-to-play for its entire lifetime, both during and after Early Access. We are supported by an optional in-game currency. While the prices or contents of our cosmetic bundles may change over time, the core game will always be free.

Your game has in-app purchases. What do I need to know?

Yes, in the Early Access version of Project Freefall, players will be able to purchase various Divers with Sky Bucks. Players can play the game to earn Sky Bucks, or they can buy Sky Bucks at the following levels:

5,000 Sky Bucks for $4.99 USD
12,500 Sky Bucks for $9.99 USD
20,000 Sky Bucks for $14.99 USD

In the future, we plan to add other items to our store for purchase.

Players can also earn currency through gameplay.

Can your product be used without making in-app purchases?

Yes! Players can download the game for free and play without making any in-app purchases. They can also earn Sky Bucks, our in-app currency, just by playing.

Are in-app purchases refundable?

No, in-app purchases are not refundable. If you encounter any issues with your in-app purchases, please contact our Support team (Opens in new tab).

What payment platform do players use to make in-app purchases?

We're using Epic's payment system for Project Freefall. We aren't using any 3rd-party systems.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

The community is the most important part of our Early Access plan! We will be actively listening and engaging with players through:

  • The Official Schell Games Discord Server: Discord will be our primary hub for real-time conversations, feedback threads, and sharing clips of your most epic moments.

  • Regular Gameplay: We'll be playing the game with the community a ton. We can’t wait to chase you around this aerial playground.

  • The Steam Community Forums: We'll monitor these forums closely for bug reports, suggestions, and broader discussions about the game's direction.

  • Regular Updates: We'll keep you in the loop about what we're working on, why we're making certain changes, and what's coming next.

  • Player Surveys and Polls: We'll directly ask for your input on potential new features, content, and gameplay.

We're not just looking for bug reporters; we're looking for co-developers. Your voice will be critical in shaping Project Freefall. We are one big community, and you are the most essential part.

What is your approach to AI?

In developing Project Freefall, we used generative AI as a creative tool to help us explore new ideas for music, art, store page assets, and code. We consider AI a partner in our creative process. It helped generate a wide range of concepts and assets, but every single element you see, hear, and experience in the game was deliberately chosen, edited, and finished by our talented team of human developers. This collaborative approach allows us to take more risks, move faster, and make more things the community wants. We are creating this game with the essential human touch that gives the game its heart and soul.
