Reaper Actual
What kind of game is Reaper Actual?
Reaper Actual is an Open-World Persistent Shooter (OPS). Players play as Reapers, former Tier 1 operators from the world's armed forces and intelligence services. Reapers have Bases which are physical places on the beautiful but deadly island of Marova. They venture out from these bases into a massive world that is controlled by 5 different AI controlled factions that are constantly at war with one another.
The world of Marova is completely PVPVE at all times, so every player and NPC you meet is deadly. Players do missions, kill other players, collect loot and bring it back to their base. If they aren't careful doing their missions they generate heat which can lead to their base being raidable.
What are Reapers?
Reapers are former Tier 1 operators from the world's armed forces or intelligence services. Reapers have a unique look and a set of weapons and gear they can always bring into the world should one be killed. They also have a set of abilities and bonuses. We'll go into much deeper detail in the near future.
What is Foundation Alpha?
Foundation Alpha presents the community with the opportunity to be among the first players to step foot in the world of Reaper Actual and to see first-hand how the island of Marova and the gameplay evolve over time.
By being in our early testing, you will be able to give feedback directly to the team and experience new features, systems, missions, weapons and vehicles as they are developed. This does mean you’ll experience bugs and stability issues, and things aren’t always going to work as planned the first time. But, if you are patient, we believe you’ll be very surprised and delighted to see things evolve.
We hope you’ll join us on this journey and we guarantee you're in for a wild ride!
Why Foundation Alpha?
Our vision for Reaper Actual is massive, with its huge island battlefield, bases, vehicles, weapons, and planned user-generated features. It’s ambitious in relying upon new systems that have never been seen before to focus the conflict, drive player interaction, and deliver missions and life to the various factions fighting for control of the game world.
From our combined experience working on dozens of large-scale games and MMOs, we know that these games need thriving communities and rely upon players to help tune the game. It’s also an expensive endeavor and when developed without the voices of the community, a game could miss the mark.
We want your feedback and we need your support. As a Foundation Alpha community member, you are a crucial part of the team and we will work with you to deliver the best game experience possible. From day one, you’ll have access to limited edition Reapers that will be retired over time and newer players won’t have access to them from our store once they sell out.
Is there a story or campaign?
Yes. The world of Reaper Actual is steeped in lore, with an evolving narrative revealed through world events, missions, and environmental storytelling. We have a long term plan for our narrative and our goal is to tell a story over an extended period of time. Players will see that take shape through the different missions they take and by events that happen in the world.
How do Missions work?
Reapers do missions for the different factions on Marova. We built an AI called Cerberus that creates missions for players that are designed to put them directly into contact with each other. For example a mission from the Rogue Command faction may require the assassination of a High Value Target. It may give that mission to one person or group of players and a counter-mission to defend that very same HVT to another person or group. Our goal is to get people into PVP situations. We take that to extremes at times when Cerberus offers a number of missions to different players in one area with the explicit goal of getting big fights We're very fond of. We also let solo players take missions away from a lot of players if they prefer to have a chill.
How does Persistence work?
Reaper Actual is a cross between an MMORPG and a First-Person Shooter. Unlike other shooters, there isn't a match with a start and an end. It works like an MMO where you can drop in when you want and play for as long as you want. Your character levels up. You have MMO style progression. You build your base up. You collect different Reapers (Operators in other shooters). If you get killed by someone, you can go right back out, find them and get your revenge because if they haven't logged off they're all yours to hunt down.
What do you plan to sell?
We have a very simple approach to monetization. We're going to offer different levels of starter packs that include a Base and a set number of reapers. We intend to offer very affordable versions of the game and ones that cost more. We're also going to be selling additional Reapers and Bases.
In addition we will of course sell a variety of weapon skins and other non-game impacting items as well as doing a Battle Pass that comes with a variety of different things similar to other similar games.
Very importantly, players will be able to earn all of these things just by playing the game. To put this as simply as possible - we're in business to make an awesome game for players and to do that we need to be making money. We're excited to build a better and better game over time, but we need the continued support of our players.
How do Bases work?
Bases are the player's home in Marova. They come in many shapes, sizes, types and locations. Each base type has different pros and cons including location. Some players want to have a hideout deep in the forest that's hard to get to but also hidden away from other players. Others want to have a huge warehouse base with many different crafting/manufacturing stations.
We plan to offer a large variety of bases over time. We're also going to let players own multiple bases. Fundamentally a base is a location and a type of building in the world. Players have access to their base when they open the door with a keycard. Once they go inside they are in an instanced interior that contains a vault (different bases have different vault sizes), hard points to attach defenses to, crafting stations and other things we'll be sharing over time.
Players will also need to defend their bases if they are not careful when they're doing missions out in the world. If they attract too much heat, it makes it possible for the base to be raided. The defenders have an advantage if they've set up defenses. Players can also allow the Reapers they own but are not currently playing to help defend the base. If the raiding players are successful they will have access to a subset of the items in the vault. Players cannot ever lose their base.
What are Bunker Bases?
Bunker Bases are underground, cold, and built to endure. Bunker bases are stripped-down shelters from the Cold War era—just enough infrastructure to survive, defend, and resupply. Interiors are cramped and utilitarian, offering basic protection and minimal amenities. These are starting strongholds: low visibility, low upgrade potential, and entirely focused on function over comfort.
**Bunker Base Locations
**
Alpha - This secluded bunker east of KAM overlooks the village of Straliti and offers quick access to major highways.
Beta - Steps away from the Marova Channel, this roadside bunker situated nearby KAM's runway offers both beautiful views and earsplitting arrivals.
Delta - Convenient and secluded central location for the discerning private mercenary.
Gamma - Quick access to major roads and overlooking a flooded quarry, this secluded bunker owes its waterfront status to multiple bogus hydrogeological surveys.
Kappa - Remote location in the wooded hillside above the Soviet Unity Tunnel. Private with quick access to major highways.
Omicron - Lively central location in close proximity to both major roads and mass transit.
Omega - Nestled inside an old quarry, this isolated location in the hills above KAM lies far off the beaten path.
What are Warehouse Bases?
Warehouse Bases are open, adaptable, and structurally sound. Warehouses are industrial spaces reclaimed from Marova's commercial zones and shipping yards. They offer a blank slate—plenty of room for crafting stations, vehicle storage, or defensive layouts. Durable enough to hold ground and flexible enough to specialize.
Warehouse Locations
Eastern KAM Warehouse - This warehouse in KAM's own vehicle maintenance hub provides easy access to both the airport and the village of Straliti.
Southern KAM Warehouse - Waterfront property is expensive, but thanks to the adjacent seafood processing facility, this affordable warehouse on the Marova Channel proves the exception to the rule. Enjoy that refreshing sea breeze!
Western KAM Warehouse - In the heart of KAM's rental car repair center, this warehouse is well off the main road, but still offers quick access to the airport.
Northern KAM Warehouse - Located inside of an industrial park and built on top of an abandoned quarry, this remote location in the hills above KAM provides all the privacy necessary for any clandestine operation.
Will there be vehicles?
Absolutely. Land, Sea and Air vehicles. We want combined arms to be a big deal in Reaper Actual. They are not yet implemented in the Foundation Alpha, but they will be added over time. More details to follow.
Is there Crafting in Reaper Actual?
Crafting is one of the deepest systems we are building in Reaper Actual. The world is filled with different resources that can be used to forge weapons, gear and other gameplay impacting things. We can't wait to share more details here.
Is there a day/night cycle? Weather?
Yes. We feature a full day/night cycle and weather. Fans of our previous work know we are really into those kinds of things and the gameplay differences will be big. We'll offer night vision gear, missions that only happen at certain times of day and many other things directly impacted by day/night and weather.
Is Reaper Actual a live service game?
Yes - but with a focus on community agency. The world persists, and players shape it through actions, factions, and the economy.
Can I run my own server?
Yes. Eventually, players will be able to rent servers from us, and build their own communities, including the ability to mod the game.
What platforms will Reaper Actual be on?
PC at launch (via Steam, the Epic Games Store and ReaperActual.com).
Which game engine does it use?
Reaper Actual is built in Unreal Engine 5.X (we update it regularly so we're not sure which version we will launch on yet), using the latest Nanite and Lumen technologies.
