Forged amidst the heat of battle during the elder wars between Rat and Bat, they will help Arlo - heir to the Warden of the North - to inspire the animal folk of the Ratdom's winter swept northern frontier to rise against the ice-cold armies of the Dark Wings.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter took me by surprise, successfully combining blatant inspirations from the big cheeses of action RPGs and reinterpreting them in a fine, nibble-sized package. It looks simultaneously beautiful and intentionally rough, and its combat is challenging but (mostly) fair. I’m not sure it needs to continue doubling in size with its potential third entry—it’s a little fighter, and rat’s good enough.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter is a fantastic follow-up and brings back the gorgeous art style and brutal combat the original was known for. The addition of magic is hit and miss, though I did enjoy how imbued weapons factor into combat. The story, though similar in structure to the original, packs a punch and I found myself entirely invested by the time the end battle commenced. Tails of Iron 2 has a few downfalls, but overall is well worth picking up.
