Today, the Guerrilla Collective Online Showcase 2024 livestream kicked off a long game-centric week of video game shows and announcements. The Guerrilla Collective livestream is paired with an in-person event hosted by The MIX in Los Angeles, and both today's stream and tomorrow's onsite event are packed with games from a wide array of indie developers and publishers.

To give you an idea of what's coming, we thought we’d round up the biggest and most interesting announcements for every type of player—or head on over to the Epic Games Store to check out our spotlight on the 2024 Guerrilla Showcase.

The Axis Unseen

Buckle up for a heavy metal horror game from Nate Purkeypile, whose previous credits include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In The Axis Unseen, players hunt folklore-inspired monstrosities in an open world.

The trailer showed bow-and-arrow hunting in harsh-colored, brutal environments. And when the high-tech bow and arrow (it looks like it has a holographic display) wasn’t the right tool for the job, the player rained down fountains of blood with a short spear. It’s really the perfect equipment to have with you if you find yourself surrounded by angry and aggressive tree-men and elk-beasts—as one does.

Beyond the Ice Palace 2

Become the Cursed King, risen from the dead and wielding the very chains that imprisoned you, in STORYBIRD Studio's platformer Beyond the Ice Palace 2.

The trailer follows the Cursed King through dungeons, where he uses those chains to disassemble skeletons, solve puzzles, open chests, and swing from chandeliers. He fought off gigantic bosses—a few of which looked to be about the size of a small house—and showed off some slick magic, teleporting around confused enemies. Everything in Beyond the Ice Palace 2 screams classic Metroidvania, down to its pixel-art aesthetic.

Chocolate Factory

A little exploration, a little combat, and a lot of candy is the recipe for Tbjbu2’s Chocolate Factory. The first-person factory automation game puts players at eye level with conveyor belts carrying copious confectionaries.

The trailer showed off a vast open world full of chocolate fountains, lollipop trees, candy cane outcroppings, and at least one evil gingerbread man being destroyed by a gigantic gun. The player bounced around in a valley between cupcake-topped mountains under an impossibly blue sky. They built candy-processing machines, connected them together with glowing blue tendrils (some of which became conveyor belts), and even seemed to gather resources like raw chocolate and rock candy with a pickaxe. Chocolate Factory looks quite peaceful in the moments when a gigantic, sentient marshmallow isn’t chasing you down.

Creatures of Ava

Creatures of Ava is guided by players’ empathy. Inverge Studios’ action-adventure game sends players on a quest to save creatures from a deadly infection called “the withering.” Players take on the role of Vic, who’s "armed" with a flute and a desire to help save more than 20 wild creatures from this terrible plague.

The trailer shows Vic exploring the planet Ava as she races to research the withering and (hopefully) save the animals. The world’s original inhabitants may treat her with apprehension—but that won’t deter her from her mission.

Egging On

Being a fragile little egg is tough, and Egging On (from developer Egobounds) will teach players how to survive the farm in this wobbly platformer. The idea is to survive the challenges after you climb out of a hen house and navigate dangerous areas like a shop and a kitchen without cracking up.

The trailer showed off a little, white egg’s journey through the hen house. It’s everything adorable and terrifying about playing as an egg. It rolled and wobbled and jumped higher and higher—until it fell from a wooden board, cracking and turning into a puddle of yolk. And that’s when we learned that, when you’re a slimy pile of yolk, you’ve got to be careful not to ooze down through the level. There are no checkpoints, and when your (customizable!) shell regenerates, you’ll have to start from wherever you fell.

Escape from Ever After

The developers at Sleepy Castle Studio wear their inspirations on their sleeves. Escape from Ever After is a role-playing game inspired by the Paper Mario series. The story follows an evil corporation that moves into an idyllic fairytale land to exploit their resources and labor. Enter Flynt Buckler, a hero who will save the day using Escape from Ever After’s turn-based combat system. The latest trailer was full of cartoony characters—including woodland creatures, a small crescent moon, and even a little dragon.

KIBORG

Kiborg is a game from developer Sobaka Studio that blends elements of action games,  roguelites, and even time-management against a dark sci-fi backdrop. The clock keeps moving forward whether you win or lose, and a fresh, new disaster strikes every in-game week.

The brief Guerrilla Collective 2024 demo showcased choosing a mission, taking down bad guys, removing their mechanical hearts, and using them to build a powerful exoskeleton for defeating enemies. The melee-focused action game allows players to build their ultimate fighters, whether they fail or succeed.

Munch

Munch is a game about three things: killing, eating, and evolving. The developers at Mac n Cheese Games describe Munch as a “reverse-horror fantasy action roguelite” where you become a monster on a quest to resurrect the Gods of Heavy Metal.

The Guerrilla Collective trailer showed the hungry evolution in progress, with plenty of fingers flying into the air to make the metal sign. It also introduced us to characters like Whip-Flesh “Kill ‘Em All!” who looks like an eyeball with teeth instead of eyelids and also octopus tentacles for arms.

Ova Magica

Ova Magica’s developers at ClaudiaTheDev describe the farming game as Stardew Valley meets Pokémon.

You take on the role of a new arrival in Clover Town, where you'll make friends with the locals and the adorable blob creatures that inhabit the area. Farming produces everything from berries to extra-dimensional mushrooms. Blob friendship involves hatching, caretaking, and feeding your gooey little buddies who can help you farm—and fight. You’ll take on other blob trainers, find rare and legendary items, and even grow strong and unique blobs, all while crafting items to make your farm your own.

Rogue Labyrinth

Tea Witch Games’ Rogue Labyrinth puts players into the titular labyrinth, fills it with monsters and tasks players to thwart the plans of an eccentric billionaire colonist by fighting through and powering up.

The procedurally generated roguelite has hundreds of powers and dozens of monsters inside of a labyrinth that changes every time you play. The more enemies you defeat, the more popular you’ll get, and the more fans will reward you. Also, there’s a fishing minigame!

SteamWorld Heist 2

Officially revealed last month, the latest trailer for SteamWorld Heist 2 showed off a mid-game mission featuring a sniper, a damage build, and a crew member who gets a bonus shot for being good at his job. The turn-based combat rewards planning, scoping out enemy positions and environmental hazards. Each character exits missions with experience, and they can then upgrade their submarine with a powerful torpedo, which is useful as they explore the oceans and clear out the fog of war.
