Phantom Blade Zero (Öppnas i en ny flik) | S-Game Studio | Release Date: Oct 29, 2026

We’re getting ever closer to Phantom Blade Zero’s (Öppnas i en ny flik) release date of Oct 29, 2026. The Wuxia action game by S-Game Studio has revealed just who was behind the mask in June’s State of Play trailer: Hong Kong actor, filmmaker, martial artist, and action director Donnie Yen.

The Ip Man actor and Sleeping Dogs star brings a huge amount of authenticity to the kung fu battles the player will engage in, stepping into the role of Mo Yuan in-game, and taking on the position of creative consultant for the game. Along with Donnie, we got a whole new look at combat, the game world, and a boss fight.

The “kungfupunk” game explores the Phantom World as Soul, an elite assassin for the Order who has been framed for the death of his master, and left with 66 days to live. With over 30 weapons to wield, from swords to axes, lances, hammers, and more, and inspired by classic Hong Kong action movies, you can see how every fight unfolds like a seamlessly choreographed martial arts sequence.

If you’re wondering what sort of action game this is, the trailer opens with the main character, Soul, driving a horse-drawn cart with one hand, while deflecting bullets with a sword. As bullets zing by, he parries and ducks, allowing the horse-bound attackers to pull near, then fends both off with blazingly fast counters, flipping both into the air with elaborate swipes and moves.

All while still holding onto the horses.

"Donnie Yen has served as creative consultant for Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, bringing his martial arts and action filmmaking expertise to our combat design to help deliver an authentic kung fu experience."

The action continues along a road, with a huge cliff on one side and a deadly drop on the other as a Hunter swoops in. He grapples his way along a roadside cliff, using axe-like grappling hooks, flips onto the backs of both horses and reveals himself as a faceless demon, presenting a poster with the main character’s face on it. What follows is a classic Wuxia action sequence, as they clash on the moving cart. The Hunter uses his grappling axes to hook into the cliffs, spinning in the air out of reach of attack. The rickety cart is a dramatic platform for huge moves with swirling axes and flipping dodges.

It ends with the boss being sliced and diced, and the horses eventually running out of road, plummeting into the gap where a bridge once stood.

The 11-minute trailer reveals more of the Phantom World’s characters. We see Quickhand Jang, who seems to be a treasure hunter, and Forge, an artisan who makes weapons for Lady Anis. There are moments of humanity and friendship between the intense fighting sequences.

There’s also a glimpse at the creatures you’ll battle: a man with a spinning sawblade for a head, and men with giant puppet faces. The brief flashes of action show how this is a game where every fight is a set-piece, highlighting creative choreography, elaborate weapons, and OTT drama. You’ll even get to battle Donnie Yen.

As Soulframe Liang, Founder & CEO of S-Game said on PlayStation Blog: “Donnie Yen has served as creative consultant for Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, bringing his martial arts and action filmmaking expertise to our combat design to help deliver an authentic kung fu experience. He also takes on the role of Facial & Motion Capture Actor for Mó Yuan, our protagonist Soul’s father."
