El presentador Geoff Keighley reveló el lunes quiénes son los nominados a The Game Awards de este año. God of War Ragnarök encabeza la lista de la edición de 2022. Ragnarok está nominado a 10 premio en una lista compuesta por 108 juegos, personas, equipos y eventos repartidos en 31 categorías.

Los nominados a juego del año son: A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studio/Focus Entertainment), Elden Ring (FromSoftware/Bandai Namco), God of War Ragnarök (Sony Santa Monica/SIE), Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games/SIE), Stray (BlueTwelve Studio/Annapurna Interactive) y Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Monolith Soft/Nintendo).

Sony Interactive Entertainment es la editora con más nominaciones (20, en concreto) en su gran repertorio de juegos, seguida de Annapurna Interactive y Nintendo con 11. 

Un jurado compuesto por más de 100 medios de todo el mundo selecciona a los nominados. Los jurados especializados convocan otras categorías, como los esports, la accesibilidad y la mejor adaptación. Los ganadores son elegidos mediante una votación mixta entre el jurado que vota (90 %) y el público que vota (10 %). 

En 2021, un total de 85 millones de espectadores se conectaron a la emisión de The Game Awards. The Game Awards 2022, la 9.ª celebración mundial de la industria del videojuego que tiene lugar cada año, se transmitirán en directo de forma gratuita a través de más de 40 plataformas digitales diferentes como YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Steam, Facebook, TikTok Live y, por primera vez, Instagram Live.
